The Alolan Rock-type Puppy Pokemon Rockruff is available in Pokemon Go. Here’s how to catch it and whether it can be Shiny.

Since its introduction in Pokemon Sun and Moon, Rockruff has been popular for its adorable design and its evolution Lycanroc’s three distinct forms.

The Rock-type Puppy Pokemon has been available in Pokemon Go for a while now, being introduced in March 2022 alongside the Alolan starters and other Gen 6 Pokemon. A January 2024 event finally introduced Lycanroc’s Dusk form to the game, giving players another way to evolve their Rockruff.

Here’s what to know about catching Rockruff and if it can be Shiny.

How to catch Rockruff in Pokemon Go

Rockruff in Pokemon Go

Rockruff can only be obtained by hatching it from 10km eggs or defeating it in 1-Star Raids. Unlike most other Pokemon, it does not spawn in the wild.

As the Pokemon isn’t currently available in Raids, the only way to get Rockruff right now is through 10km Eggs obtained through Adventure Sync Rewards.

Note that Rockruff’s evolution, Lycanroc, has three forms – Midday, Midnight, and Dusk – so you’ll need to hatch a lot of Eggs if you want them all. For more information on how to evolve Rockruff into your desired Lycanroc form, check out our guide.

Can Rockruff be Shiny in Pokemon Go?

Yes, Shiny Rockruff is available in Pokemon Go.

Given Rockruff’s limited availability, it is pretty rare, though. If you’re lucky enough to catch one, be careful if you choose to evolve it to ensure you get the Lycanroc form you want.
