Yveltal is returning to Pokemon Go in 5-Star Raids, so we’ve rounded up details of its weaknesses, the best counters to help you defeat it, and whether it can be Shiny or not.
Known as the Destruction Pokemon, the bird-like Yveltal first appeared in Pokemon X & Y’s Kalos region and then debuted in Pokemon Go in May 2021. It certainly lives up to its name, with a fearsome design and a huge amount of power.
If you’ve not managed to catch one yet, or you’re on the hunt for a Shiny version, you’ll be glad to know that Yveltal is returning to 5-Star Raids with the Charged Move Oblivion Wing from August 16 to September 1, 2023.
To help you defeat this powerful Legendary creature, we’ve put together a guide detailing the best counters you should be using to take advantage of Yveltal’s weaknesses.
Trainers will be glad to see Yveltal finally debut in Go.
Yveltal weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Yveltal is a dual Dark/Flying-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak against Electric, Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type attacks. You’ll want to focus on counters of these types for the best chance at taking it down.
On the flip side, Yveltal is immune to Ground and Psychic-types and is resistant to Ghost, Grass, and Dark-types, so avoid taking Pokemon of these types into battle.
Another important thing to remember: Yveltal’s power is boosted by Fog and Windy weather, so it’s best to avoid battling it during these conditions – unless you want a more difficult challenge, that is!
Yveltal counters in Pokemon Go
The best counters to take into battle against Yveltal are Mega Gardevoir or Mega Tyranitar, but many trainers won’t have access to these powered-up creatures.
Here are some of the best non-Mega and non-Shadow counters to use against Yveltal:
Pokemon
Fast Move

Is Yveltal worth getting?
The short answer is: Yes, Yveltal is absolutely worth getting. It’s an incredibly bulky Pokemon and is pretty much unmatched when it comes to Dark-types.
It’s likely that it will become a regular addition to many Master League teams, especially with Oblivion Wing, as it’s able to put up a good fight against almost all of the opponents it will face in PvP Battles.
Can Yveltal be Shiny in Pokemon Go?
Shiny Yveltal has earned itself the ‘streaky bacon’ nickname.
