TikTok food reviewer Keith Lee has responded after his visit to the “Sweetly Seasoned” food truck in Dallas, Texas prompted a wave of backlash against the owners, as well as another restaurant with the same name.

TikTok celeb Keith Lee’s visit to “Sweetly Seasoned” originally started out like any other content on his profile, and ended with the content creator leaving the owners with a generous tip of 4,000 dollars. In the original video, Lee expressed that he wanted the tip money split between the owners and the two people doing hair outside the truck.

However, when it emerged that Kim Viverette, the owner of the “Sweetly Seasoned” truck, had not split the money as requested, the business received waves of hate from social media, with many demanding that Viverette do as Lee had asked.

Keith Lee responds to ‘Sweetly Seasoned’ review controversy

In his most recent TikTok, Keith Lee addressed his fans to confirm some of the facts about what had happened during the review.

He said that there were some “conflated and confused things going around about the situation”, stating that no one at the business had any idea that he and his family were coming.

Lee said that he and his family “had no idea what was going on behind the scenes”, and that they assumed that the owners of the food truck and the two people doing hair outside it were part of the business.

He also said that “it was really only a five-minute interaction”, and that because he never carries cash for safety reasons, he tipped in the same way he always does, through the POS (point of sale) system.

“Sweetly Seasoned has a lot to figure out, and I hope they do figure it out.”

In his last point, Lee said that the son at the business was misrepresenting what he said to Viverette, and that they were “100% wrong, in my opinion” to distribute the money in the way that they did.

Another business with a similar name as the food truck was also on the receiving end of this hate, as workers at the Seasoned Street Food, a restaurant in Dallas, were shocked to get such angry messages and phone calls.

Sweetly Seasoned breaks their silence

Following Keith Lee’s public response, Sweetly Seasoned has now publicly addressed the controversy and it seems as though his and the world’s criticism has resulted in a change of heart (and payment).

“We thought and believed we were right but unfortunately we were wrong! This has been a huge miscommunication on our part and all funds are being released,” the company wrote in their statement.

As of now, Keith Lee has not responded to their message as of yet.
