Jeremy Renner is “a bit scared” of Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 return

Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 is well underway – but Jeremy Renner has admitted he’s been “a bit scared” about returning to work.

The Paramount Plus drama, created by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan, stars Renner as Mike McLusky, a former inmate of the titular Michigan town’s prison who becomes its unofficial “mayor”, brokering peace and deals between criminals and cops.

The series has been one of the streamer’s biggest hits, and it was renewed for a third season in September last year. However, Renner has been in recovery for the past year after he was nearly killed in a snowplow accident last January.

Not only is the star on his feet and walking again – in itself “miraculous”, he’s said – but he’s also back at work on Mayor of Kingstown for the third season.

In an interview with People, Renner said he was a “little bit scared” about getting back on the set of Mayor of Kingstown – but he’s also “excited.”

“I don’t know if I’m looking forward to it. Again, I try to just do everything kind of step by step here. That’s one foot in front of the other one. Then you’re walking,” he explained.

Renner’s injuries were extensive: he suffered blunt chest trauma and 30 broken bones, and his rib cage was rebuilt with metal. He’s credited “countless hours” of physical therapy with his recovery, but also his “mind and the will to be here and push to recover and be better.”

Filming on the series can be “arduous”, considering the long work days in “the freezing cold outside in Pittsburgh” and nervousness about “slipping and falling.”

“I think I’m excited when I’m there and I get in a rhythm there. I’m excited about the character and, of course, all the people involved and all that in the storyline, but for me, I’m just tentative of confidence in work,” he added.

In a recent Instagram post, Renner shared a photo of him on the set and wrote: “Day one on set… nervous today. Hope this works out that I can ACTUALLY pull this off for our production and more importantly the fans.”

“It’s been a really wonderful, wonderfully busy year, and I think I’m ready. I think I’m strong enough. We’ll see. I mean, I literally go back in a week. But I’ll be doing my best, trying my hardest,” he also told CNN.
