Chainsaw Man Chapter 153 may solve Makima & Nayuta theory
Viz MediaChainsaw Man Chapter 153 may have finally answered a long-time question concerning the reincarnation of Makima.
Chainsaw Man has taken a very different approach as it started the new Academy saga, moving away from Public Safety and the violent Devil fights, focusing on a new main character, Asa, finding her footing with a new “roommate” and Denji’s more day to day lives until trouble comes knocking on the Chainsaw Man’s front door. Don’t worry, there are still plenty of violent Devil fights.
In recent chapters, we’ve moved away from Asa; Denji has been going through it with these thoughts of leaving himself and Nayuta behind, just becoming Chainsaw Man full-time, reveling in the notoriety as well as the fame that came with being a chainsaw-wielding superhero.
However, in the newest chapter, Denji may be getting the opposite of what he wants but also might confirm Nayuta’s view of Chainsaw Man.
Chainsaw Man Chapter 153 pushes Makima and Nayuta further apart
The long-time idea that Nayuta could be Makima and just taking a while to grow back to that point may be a worry of the past, as an important scene in the new chapter displays Nayuta’s view of our protagonist, Denji.
Makima did not want much to do with Denji during the Public Safety Saga but knew she had to tolerate his immaturity to get closer to Chainsaw Man. Not caring about Denji’s humanity or anything he particularly cared about or wanted, not his friends or dreams, Makima only saw Chainsaw Man whenever she looked at Denji.
Nayuta is the reincarnation of Control Devil for the continuation after Denji managed to put Makima down in the finale of the previous saga. Nayuta is childish and doesn’t present many concerns outside her family circle. So when Denji succumbs to being Chainsaw Man, outright saying that Nayuta should probably stay away from him, we see from her point of view that whenever she looks at Denji, she actually sees Denji, not Chainsaw Man.
Fans have also pointed out this school of thought on the Chainsaw Man subreddit, with u/Zekriy sharing images from the manga to back up the point:
Denji wanted to be Chainsaw Man again, but he’s entered a situation where the people don’t like their tree cutter-headed hero anymore, voiding any hopes of him being the big savior role he hoped to return to from previous chapters. Instead of dwelling on his comments, Nayuta doubles down and tries to save Denji from the crowd of rowdy citizens angry at the Chainsaw-head Devil outbreak, which is causing worldwide havoc.
Nayuta proves she isn’t Makima as previous concerns can seemingly be put to rest after seeing her definitive few that she only sees Denji for who he is, a big brother who looks after her and their pets. Still, at the same time, someone to protect instead of control, oddly going firmly against the nature of the Control Devil.
