Crunchyroll “focused” on fixing problems with mobile app
CrunchyrollCrunchyroll president Rahul Purini has confirmed that plans are in place to fix lingering issues with the mobile version of the popular streaming platform.
Crunchyroll is an amazing service that provides anime for a global audience, often lockstep with the Japanese release schedule, but the mobile experience leaves a lot to be desired. There are bugs, playback is often laggy, leading to frustration when watching to catch up with the best anime shows while travelling.
When asked about possible improvements, Purini made clear updates are on the way. In fact, the experience on iOS and Android should begin improving very soon.

“We have teams very focused on both our iOS and Android apps,” Purini says in an interview. “We have been releasing updates very regularly.”
He tells The Verge that people will see the apps “are getting better and better every day.” There’s a vagueness to his statements that don’t inspire huge confidence, but it does sound like something he’s aware of, and understands needs to be made better.
Purini reveals that he comes from an engineering background, so improving the backend is something he knows about. Later in the interview, he talks about how many platforms Crunchyroll is on, discussing the service’s rollout on consoles and smart TVs. The service has been put on a lot of marketplaces, and each one requires maintainence.
Mobile will get the attention it deserves, I’m just not totally confident you’ll see that right away. But incremental changes should make a huge difference in the long run. Crunchyroll is only going to get bigger as Demon Slayer Season 4, My Hero Academia Season 7, and a plethora of other huge releases arrive this year.
