The legend of the Super Saiyan may pale in comparison to the Gods of Destruction, as we rank the 10 strongest characters in Dragon Ball Super.

While Dragon Ball may maintain an adventurous theme at its core, we cannot deny the attention-grabbing fights within the series, feats of strength, and satisfying moments rarely seen in other anime. The latest addition to the anime is Dragon Ball Super, where peace has finally returned to the Earth – much to the chagrin of Goku, who’s itching for a fight.

In Dragon Ball Super, characters with power beyond comprehension come out of the woodwork as we join Goku on his journey to become stronger, participating in tournaments housing universe-changing outcomes as power limits are broken, with the Z Warriors facing the strongest opponents they’ve ever encountered.

The strongest characters in Dragon Ball Super

We’re counting those who have made their power known in the Dragon Ball Super anime – so this means no characters from the associated Dragon Ball Super movies. We apologize in advance to the fans of Gohan and Broly after displaying their amazing feats of power in their own films.

10. Frieza

Frieza, the infamous villain of the Namek Saga in Dragon Ball Z, returns after Goku desperately looks for fighters to participate in the Tournament of Power. Much to everyone else’s protest, Frieza comes along for the ride, acting strangely honorable towards his former enemies – not without the occasional snide comment, of course.

The tyrant puts every effort into saving his universe as Goku does, utilizing his newly acquired “Golden Frieza” form to dispatch as many combatants as possible from the tournament. Frieza’s main feat from Dragon Ball Super is helping Goku finally defeat Jiren and securing the win for Universe 7. However, we now suspect the overlord is up to his old tricks after being resurrected by Whis as a reward for his efforts.

9. Hit

Hit, the quiet hopper from Universe 6 (also sporting the perfect name for a character in a fighting anime), takes pride in his work as an assassin, and his strength earned him a spot in the Tournament of Destroyers, where he makes short work of Vegeta and sizes up Goku. Hit’s abilities garnered much attention from Goku after he revealed his signature technique.

What makes Hit especially deadly is his ability to Time-Skip, where he briefly pauses time and does anything he desires, from predicting his enemy’s movements to setting up a fatal attack. Hit shows little interest in the battles he participated in until he discovers that Goku hired the assassin to target himself with the goal of training with Hit. Don’t hire Goku as a personal trainer – he’ll get assassins involved.

8. Top

The Pride Troopers are a group of protectors for Universe 11 that boast their vision of true justice and protect the weak. All they’re missing is a series of poses, and they’ll rival the Ginyu Force. The leader of the Pride Troopers Top earns his position by fighting honorably, rivaling Goku and Vegeta’s abilities, and coming only second to Jiren from his universe.

In the Tournament of Power, the threat of Universe 11 being eliminated gets the better of Top as he lets his rage get the better of him, causing him to access the powers of the Destroyers. Becoming a candidate to replace the God of Destruction in his universe, Top is only met with disappointment after his loss at the hands of Vegeta.

7. Vegeta

Vegeta gains a sense of responsibility in Dragon Ball Super, often leading him to be more of a voice of reason (if you can believe it), but he still shows up for the fight when it’s needed. What keeps Vegeta in the running is his refusal to let the gap between him and Goku significantly widen, training with his fellow Saiyan and Whis, leading to him achieving forms that make short work of Frieza when the tyrant comes knocking on Earth’s front door.

The prince of all Saiyans still has some catching up to do in Dragon Ball Super as he trails behind a handful of characters, including Goku, as usual. Not for lack of trying, mind you, the Super roster includes a lot of powerhouses that Vegeta can only attempt to match up against, often resulting in the proud Saiyan not securing the win.

6. Jiren

Jiren, the strongest member of the Universe 11 Pride Troopers, put our heroes on the ropes during the Tournament of Power and only lost by ring-out by Goku and Frieza – if it was a regular fight, would he have still lost? Nevertheless, he respects Goku and vows to have a rematch someday between the two.

Jiren comes across as stoic and, due to a sad backstory resulting in him receiving a belief in the principles of a true sense of justice, the classic grey alien-looking warrior refuses to kill any villains or accept help from his allies even in the direst of circumstances. Jiren wants to protect everyone he can and only puts himself at risk; that selflessness makes him one of the most heroic characters in Dragon Ball.

5. Goku

The face of Dragon Ball barely scratches the top half of our rankings. Goku takes a massive attitude change in Dragon Ball Super that often ends with the sensible side characters getting roped into all sorts of powerful fights. Though his good intentions remain, without a threat to battle, Goku’s search to fight strong opponents can come across as very selfish.

With all that said, Goku is still a powerhouse, being the first to unlock all sorts of advanced Super Saiyan forms. When Goku comes across his “Ultra Instinct” form, an aspect of destiny comes into play within Dragon Ball, which hasn’t been seen since the Namek Saga in Dragon Ball Z, with Beerus taking a keen interest in the low-class warrior, potentially seeing Goku as his successor.

4. Champa

Brother of Beerus and God of Destruction for Universe 6, Champa may not seem like much of a fighter, always trying to pull off all sorts of dirty tricks to get his way in instead of putting in the effort like other warriors contained in our rankings, often resulting in him clashing horns with his brother.

Despite all his mischievous ways, Champa is still a God of Destruction and boasts the strength and his hotheaded attitude towards the group of fighters he brings to the Tournament of Destroyers and the Tournament of Power. Only under the threat of the Omni King does Champa finally drop the attitude and speak respectfully.

3. Beerus

When Beerus appeared, he came looking for a good fight from someone who could match his strength, but he still hasn’t had that fight. The God of Destruction of Universe 7 makes short work of all of our Z Warriors and can easily do away with the threats they face. Beerus knows when he isn’t needed and often sits on the sidelines, allowing Goku and the gang to take on the villain and get stronger in the process.

Though Beerus appears lazy, cranky, and unstoppable, like most cats, he’s also a bit of a softie when it comes to Earth. He claims he only lets the planet survive destruction due to the delicious food its people make, but he’s also willing to babysit for Bulma during the Dragon Ball Super Broly movie while the gang takes care of the legendary Super Saiyan.

2. The Angels

It’s hard to get a handle on the Angels, but Whis stated that all Gods of Destruction are trained and attended by an Angel who is all in service to their superior, The Grand Minister, who accompanies the Omni King Zeno. Although they feel like attendants more than fighters, their strength is unmatched by any who challenge them; this, alongside their ability to rewind time, makes the Angels a force to be reckoned with.

Whis, in particular, earns a mention for taking Goku and Vegeta under his wing as they continue their journey to get stronger. Under his tutelage, both managed to attain Super Saiyan Blue, a higher form of the famed Super Saiyan transformation, so Whis is doing something right, training the pair of warriors hungry for strength.

1. Zeno, The Omni King

Zeno may not seem like much, but the Omni King rules over all Universes and could wipe out the whole universe with a flick of his wrist. The childish ruler of the multiverse is very indifferent to the lives of mortals, going as far as asking why the participants of the Tournament of Power stop fighting and act shocked whenever one of the losing universes is eliminated.

Prepare for trouble, and make it double because a second Zeno comes into the mix after the Future Trunks saga in Dragon Ball Super. Zeno is good friends with Goku, but the Saiyan can’t be around all the time, so after their ordeal in Trunks’ timeline, Zeno makes friends with himself, and both get along well, being co-managers of the multiverse.
