TOHOHaikyu movie has finally hit the Japanese theatres – so here’s what creator Haruichi Furudate has to say about it.
Haikyu is a popular sports series created by Haruichi Furudate. Last week, Haikyu released its highly-anticipated sequel movie, Battle of the Garbage Dump, in Japanese theatres. The movie features the battle between Nekoma and Kurasuno, something fans of the anime have been awaiting for ages.
The movie is a major hit, earning 890 million yen on opening day. It is currently the fourth-biggest first-day box office earnings in Japanese cinema, ranking behind Jujutsu Kaisen 0, One Piece Film: Red, and Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.

Haikyu creator asks fans to watch the new movie
The official Twitter/X account of Haikyu shared Haruichi Furudate’s message to fans along with a special sketch of Kenma to promote the movie.
The caption reads: “Haikyu!! The Movie Battle at the Garbage Dump is finally released today, February 16th! Mr. Furudate, who saw it earlier, also approved it! We received super exciting illustrations and comments! At the movie theater, we all gawked!! Let’s be like that!! It’s a festival!!”
And Furudate’s message on the image translates as: “It’s finally time for the final battle at the garbage dump! Have you been able to see the movie? As you near its second half, you’ll start to feel like you’re running out of breath, so please be careful.
“The Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump begins in the manga around volume 33, and I was starting to feel a little more confident in my expressions then. I felt it was crazy. That has to be an anime! So I definitely recommend watching [this movie]. I hope everyone will watch it on a big screen.”
As per the official website of Haikyu, the synopsis of the movie reads: “Karasuno High School has evolved through defeating strong opponents one after another in the spring high school volleyball Miyagi Prefecture representative deciding match and the first match of Spring High School, and defeats the championship favorite, Inarizaki High School, in the second round of Spring High School.
“Finally, in the third round, they will face their rival school, Nekoma High School. No matter how many practice matches they had, Karasuno High School and Nekoma High School had never exchanged swords on an official stage. The battle was commonly known as the “Battle at the Garbage Dump.” In the promised land, a battle without “one more chance” is about to begin.”
