A new movie from One Piece’s Toei Animation will see a collaboration between Sonic the Hedgehog’s designer and Invincible star JK Simmons.

Sonic designer Naoto Oshima and Toei Animation, the team behind One Piece, Dragon Ball Super, and the award-winning animation film The First Slam Dunk, have teamed up to create a new CGI project called Hypergalactic, a feature-length animated film.

Toei is experiencing a wave of success with film releases, including The First Slam Dunk and One Piece Film: Red which made over $525 million collectively, so they’re attempting to continue surfing this wave with a new original CGI family film including an all-star cast including a particular star from Amazon’s Invincible.

In reverse anime fashion, the film’s English version is being produced first, followed by international dubbing. The voice cast will include JK Simmons (known for playing Omni-Man in Invincible and J. Jonah Jameson from Spider-Man), as well as Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade and Agnes in Despicable Me) and Comedy Central star Adam Devine as Ohkan.

In a statement, Toei Animation producer Yoshiu Ikezawa said: “With Hypergalactic, the hugely talented Game Designer Oshima has created a multicultural adventure tale of epic scale – combining memorable global characters with a Japanese anime aesthetic and a Western approach to storytelling.”

The story of Hypergalactic takes place on Earth in the not-too-distant future, where a teenage girl and her baby brother seek the help of Ohkan, the forgotten protector of Earth where the trio work together in hopes of finding the pair’s parents, resulting in a massive adventure.
