Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami surprised by this character’s popularity
CrunchyrollJujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami didn’t expect this certain character to be so popular among fans.
Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami often shares messages with fans about certain events or new updates. JJK is among the most popular new-gen Shone anime and manga series, and its popularity only continues to rise.
The series is not only popular for its story, but also for the amazing level of individuality and depth each Jujutsu Kaisen character has. It does an impeccable job of making every single character memorable and glorious. Whether it is Yuji’s kindness, Gojo’s confidence, or Mei Mei’s greed for money, each character has a way to make their presence known.
The complex power system in the series allows each character to possess unique abilities that also add to the overall charm of the series. However, while Gojo and Yuji being popular is kind of understandable, there is one character’s popularity that surprised even Gege Akutami.
Which Jujutsu Kaisen character’s popularity surprised Gege Akutami?
Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami expresses his shock over Toge Inumaki’s popularity among fans, especially female fans. On Valentines’ Day this week, JJK leaker shared old poll results on Twitter/X featuring the winners from 2020 and 2021.
In both years, Toge Inumaki got eighth place, which is actually quite high considering he even won against Choso and Toji. However, the mangaka is unable to understand this since Toge rarely ever shows up in the series. He has almost no dialogues either since he has to speak in rice ball ingredients due to his Cursed Speech.
It’s not just the Valentines’ Day poll; Toge ranks unusually high in the overall JJK popularity poll as well. In the first one, he snagged fourth place, ranking even higher than Nanami, Nobara, and Yuta. He ranked 6th and 8th in the second and third polls, respectively.
Part of Toge’s popularity must come from Volume 0 of the manga, which was adapted into a prequel movie. The story delves deeper into Yuta’s and Toge’s friendship as the former finds it difficult to adapt to the Jujutsu world. However, Toge comforted Yuta and showed him kindness without even speaking to him at all.
Now, Yuta is one of the few people who can understand Toge’s unique speech. After the Shibuya Incident, Toge almost disappeared from the story, appearing only once before the battle of the strongest. Nonetheless, his fans would love to see more of him again.
