Netflix’s live-action One Piece has revealed who’s playing Dr Kureha in Season 2, and though it’s not Jamie Lee Curtis, the choice is being celebrated just as well.

Live-action One Piece Season 2 is currently in production, and more details are being revealed as filming moves forward. The latest titbit contains the actors behind Dr Kureha and Dr Hiriluk.

The latter is being played by Mark Harelik. We already knew the former wasn’t going to be portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis despite the hopes of the fans, but who has been chosen is being well-received.

Katey Segal, of Sons of Anarchy, Futurama, and Married with Children fame, is playing Dr Kureha for the One Piece live-action TV show.

A massive star in the world of television, not only does she bring a wealth of experience to the role and franchise, but she already looks somewhat like the character, with long wavy hair and a similar build.

“I know people wanted Jamie Lee Curtis but Sagal is a great casting choice. She should be able to match the energy you would expect for Kureha,” one commenter on Reddit stated. “I think it’s a better choice even,” another added.

“You guys don’t know how perfect this casting is for Katey Sagal. She is gonna kill this role,” a third said.

Having someone like Curtis touted for the character threatened to create an impossible standard for Netflix and producers, but it appears they’ve managed to overcome that with an ideal replacement.

This announcement comes on the heels of Eiichiro Oda, creator of One Piece, revealing an unexpected change to Season 2. The first season being so successful seems to have given everyone more confidence, leading to creative choices that are paying off so far.

Don’t forget, this isn’t Netflix’s only venture with the Straw Hats – The One Piece is in the works too.
