One Piece Chapter 1109 introduces Luffy’s new Gear 5 attack

According to One Piece Chapter 1109 spoilers, Luffy’s new attack is called “Dawn Symbals.” However, the name might differ in the official translation.

Gear 5 draws inspiration from the popular children’s cartoon Tom & Jerry. Oda’s initial concept of the story is to be something with hearty tones and not be too serious. After the recurring intense battles, Oda decided to add a fun element to the Wano arc, and that’s how Luffy’s Gear 5 in One Piece came to be.

While Kaido is fighting with all his might, Luffy is simply “playing” with him. Therefore, the Tom & Jerry reference in the fight is actually relatively easy to see. Although the situation in Egghead is also quite serious, Luffy still manages to keep his “toothy grin.”

One Piece Chapter 1109 confirms that Luffy continues to fight Kizaru and Saturn. Luffy also gets confused over Saturn being uninjured despite taking serious hits. Using his new attack, he crushes Kizaru and Saturn like pancakes before throwing them away. This is again a Tom & Jerry reference and a hilarious one at that.

However, what is weird is that despite being crushed like that, Saturn takes no damage. The elder has taken a form far more monstrous than before, which is making everyone wonder about his true nature. Adding to the fact that Saturn’s instant regeneration makes him a worthy foe, it also gives rise to the possibility that he may not be human after all.
