One Piece Chapter 1124 teases deeper connection between two Admirals
Eiichiro Oda/Toei AnimationOne Piece Chapter 1124 hints at a deeper relationship between Admiral Kizaru and Fleet Admiral Sakazuki (formerly called Akainu).
One Piece is finally concluding the ongoing Egghead Arc. As the Straw Hats set sail from the futuristic island, they leave behind a few characters. While we see the Iron Giant’s fate in Chapter 1123, the others’ statuses are revealed in Chapter 1124.
In the new chapter, we see Sentomaru leaving the island while mourning Vegapunk’s death. But he isn’t the only one hurting from the demise of the genius scientist. Admiral Kizaru has finally regained consciousness and is forced to face the horror of what he did.
Chapter 1124 reveals Kizaru’s heartbreaking dilemma after he was tasked with killing Vegapunk. The two share an extensive history and were very good friends for a long time. But Kizaru still has to kill his friend to fulfill his mission.
So, when Sakazuki calls and criticizes him for failing to stop the Straw Hats, Kizaru’s meltdown is understandable. He lashes out at the Fleet Admiral, asking him if he ever had to kill his best friend.
“If you have time to doubt my ability, then come and check for yourself, you damn brat!” Kizaru shouts at Sakazuki. But surprisingly, instead of calling him out for his insubordination, Sakazuki apologizes to him.
“I’m sorry… brother,” the Fleet Admiral says. While Sakazuki apologizing is shocking enough, what’s even more baffling is his calling Kizaru “brother”. It’s not a word used casually in Japan and represents a meaningful brotherhood.
This could signify a relationship between them that goes beyond professional – it could be that they’re blood-related. But one of the most plausible scenarios is them being sworn brothers, similar to Luffy, Sabo, and Ace.
Thanks to the small hint, fans are looking deeper into their previous interactions. Many are also hoping for their backstories in the future.
“People aren’t ready for the backstories for the Admirals… Oda saving the bests for the last,” wrote one X user, while someone else added: “This relationship got me intrigued.”
“’I’m sorry brother,’ didn’t even think Akainu was capable of apologizing,” commented another fan.
The bond between Kizaru and Sakazuki likely won’t be explored in the near future since the Elbaf Arc is all set to begin. The Straw Hats already have a mysterious character waiting for them on the coast of the island.
