One Piece Iron Giant Emet

In One Piece Chapter 1122, the Iron Giant attacks Gorosei while using Joyboy’s haki, but what happens to Emet after that?

The Iron Giant is an ancient robot belonging to the Void Century of One Piece. He has been inactive for over 200 years after attacking Marie Geoise. Vegapunk reveals he cannot determine the source of his energy.

Later, the Iron Giant becomes active again after listening to the Drums of Liberation. The manga also reveals his name is Emet as he recalls his past with Joyboy. It’s clearly unknown why Emet, a robot would have a soul.

Translators confirm his speech pattern is like that of a child, which raises a string of questions about his identity. However, before the manga can explore his past further and his reunion with Joyboy (Luffy), Emet sacrifices himself to stop Gorosei.

Does Emet die in One Piece manga?

Emet’s status in One Piece is officially unknown.

One Piece Iron Giant and Joyboy in Chapter 1122

In One Piece Chapter 1122, Emet uses all his powers after launching a devastating attack. The attack is powered by a massive amount of Joyboy’s Conqueror’s Haki, which is powerful enough to stop the villains from approaching.

However, the Iron Giant is already ripped in several pieces after fighting the powerful Gorosei. Furthermore, using Joyboy’s Haki rips him of all his remaining power. The giant robot collapses on the ground and the manga has yet to reveal more about his status.

The Iron Giant could return someday

Emet is now “slumbering”, which leaves some ambiguity. Popular theorist Artur states: “According to the editor’s note, it says ‘(Emet) slumbers away as it recalls old memories,’ meaning Emet is either out of battery again, or he might be dead for good. Thank you for everything, Emet.”

However, the true source of Emet’s powers remains unknown after what he did 200 years ago. Not only did Emet attack Marie Geoise, but he did it purely on instinct. There also wasn’t a Joyboy during that era, but Emet was still functioning for a while before he ran out of energy.

Hence, while the giant robot is out of commission, there are still some chances of seeing him again. Although, for now, the crew will escape to Elbaf and it doesn’t look like they will take Emet’s parts with them.
