5 questions the Jujutsu Kaisen ending needs to answer
Gege Akutami/MAPPAJujutsu Kaisen is going to end very soon, but the manga needs to answer a few questions before it finishes.
Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most successful manga of the last decade. Debuting in 2018, it became the face of modern shonen manga in only six years. Now, the Jujutsu Kaisen ending is almost upon us.
The manga is currently in the final stretch of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. It’s the last arc and features the climactic battle between Sukuna and the jujutsu sorcerers, starting with the long-anticipated Gojo vs. Sukuna clash.
Jujutsu Kaisen will wrap up with Chapter 271 on September 30, 2024. This means there are just five chapters left before the series is finished. However, there are still a lot of loose ends the story needs to resolve before it can end for good.
1. What happened to Jin Itadori?
Jin Itadori is Yuji’s father. For a long time, he didn’t appear to be significant to the plot. He died sometime during Yuji’s childhood. Yuji must’ve been very young because he only vaguely remembers his father’s face, but we don’t know how he died.
However, Jin’s role in the story became more complex when we learned Yuji’s biological mother was Kenjaku, possessing the body of Kaori Itadori, Jin’s real wife who died. What’s more, he’s also the reincarnated soul of Sukuna’s twin, whom he devoured in their mother’s womb.
That means Jin is the connection between Sukuna and Yuji. Given that they are the main antagonist and protagonist, respectively, it’s safe to say that there’s more to Jin than we know. But so far, we have little to nothing on him – an oversight that needs to change before Jujutsu Kaisen ends.
2. What was the relationship between Kenjaku and Tengen?
Kenjaku and Tengen are both very mysterious characters. While one is hellbent on destroying just for his own amusement, Tengen bears the fate of humanity itself. Despite their opposing roles, there are some similarities between them, too.
Both of them are ancient sorcerers who escaped death and lived for centuries. They also used to be friends at some point in the past. However, we have no idea how two individuals who are so different from each other and standing on opposite ends of morality could be friends.
Seeing a flashback of their past together would be interesting. Even though Jujutsu Kaisen only has five chapters left, it’d still be nice to get a better idea of their past together if only through a few sentences.
3. Does Yuji ever find out about his parentage?
Yuji being the son of Kenjaku is one of the most shocking twists in Jujutsu Kaisen. Nobody saw it coming, and it changed both characters in our eyes forever. Kenjaku giving birth to the protagonist means there’s more behind Yuji’s origin than we’d predicted.
Given Jin’s connection to Sukuna, his motives become more mysterious. Yuji doesn’t know the truth about his parentage – at least so far. Jujutsu Kaisen should address this plotline because not doing so would really be a waste.
4. How will Gojo and Sukuna’s deaths impact curses?
It’s no secret that Gojo and Sukuna are two of the strongest jujutsu sorcerers of all time. Gojo’s birth altered the balance of the world. His overwhelming power tipped the scales for the sorcerers too much, increasing the strength of curses in the process to keep the balance.
Sukuna, on the other hand, is the most powerful being in the manga at the moment. Dubbed the King of Curses, just the existence of his fingers as cursed objects was enough to increase the power and frequency of cursed spirits.
But now that Gojo is dead and Sukuna will die soon, how will the curses be affected? It’s possible that they’d grow weaker than before since the threats are over. But we won’t know for sure until the manga resolves this storyline.
5. Will Yuki’s vision ever come true?
Yuki Tsukumo might have been a jujutsu sorcerer but she was far from an average one. She was one of the four Special Grade sorcerers who wielded a powerful cursed technique. However, what made her so unique wasn’t her strength, but her vision.
Yuki was intimately familiar with the cruel nature of the jujutsu world. Hundreds of sorcerers died to protect normal civilians from curses. However, while Geto wanted to eradicate the injustice by killing all non-sorcerers, Yuki had something nobler in mind.
She wanted to eliminate cursed energy itself, making the appearance of cursed spirits impossible and the requirement of jujutsu sorcerers redundant. It’s a tall order, but it’s the only happy ending there that could be in the long run. Jujutsu Kaisen needs to let us know if her vision ever comes true before it ends.
