The Japanese manga and anime industry has grown exponentially over the years. With the ever-increasing influx of series coming every year, it’s quite difficult for a series to truly stand out among the crowd in the new generation.

However, the popularity of anime isn’t limited to just Japan. The anime culture is so widespread that it has been well-documented and celebrated all around the world for a long time now.

A recent poll by Nikkei Entertainment reveals the beloved anime series that currently has the most number of fans in Japan. And the answer shouldn’t surprise you, since this is the series that everyone talked about for half of 2023.

Which anime has the most fans in Japan according to Nikkei Entertainment?

According to the poll by Nikkei Entertainment, Jujutsu Kaisen has the highest number of fans in Japan. The series has the highest overall fans and female fans in the country, while it ranked second in the male category, falling behind One Piece.

Jujutsu Kaisen manga and anime took a huge leap in 2023. It’s currently at the peak of its popularity, with even celebrities like Bruno Mars, Megan Thee Stallion, Usher, and so many others posting their love for the series. In Chapter 221 (May 2023), the manga featured Gojo’s return after three years and commenced the battle of the strongest. Additionally, the series also debuted its highly-anticipated second season in July 2023. The second season adapted Gojo’s Past arc and Shibuya Incident arc from the manga.

The anime was a massive hit, surpassing even its previous season. It snagged nominations in 12 categories, including Anime of the Year. Additionally, according to Oricon, Jujutsu Kaisen ranked third in the highest-earning anime and manga franchises in 2023. It earned 4.9 billion yen, falling behind One Piece, which earned 6.3 billion yen, and Blue Lock, which came in second with 6.1 billion yen.

Jujutsu Kaisen has been making its presence known in almost all the popularity polls for a while now, with Gojo taking center stage in the character popularity polls. The series confirmed its third season in December 2023, which has yet to get a release date. The manga is currently ongoing and is in its final stretch. As such, Jujutsu Kaisen’s popularity continues to rise, not just in Japan but also across the globe.
