Terminator Zero, Dandadan and more anime leaked in huge Netflix breach

Dandadan

Dandadan, the Ranma 1/2 remake, Terminator Zero, the upcoming new Mononoke movie, and potentially more have been leaked online in what appears to be a major Netflix breach.

On August 6, 2024, episodes of Terminator Zero, Dandadan, and Mappa’s remake of Ranma 1/2, as well as new movie Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain, began circulating the internet. Clips are making their way around social media alongside the full versions through piracy sites.

The leaked copies are of low quality with hardcoded timestamps, suggesting they’ve come from somewhere in the production pipeline. No exact source has been confirmed, but the culprit is believed to be a leaker at Netflix Japan, and Japanese dialogue with a lack of subtitles or dubs for some affected releases suggests this is true.

Dandadan is being handled by the service in Japan and Crunchyroll internationally, and Ranma 1/2 and Terminator will both arrive on Netflix globally. At the time of writing, Mononoke the Movie doesn’t have a confirmed international distributor, having only premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal on July 20, 2024.

Neither Netflix nor any of the other companies associated with these productions have acknowledged or commented on these leaks. Dandadan is set for an October release, following a limited theatrical run starting September 13, and Ranma 1/2 is due in the same period, arriving on Netflix starting October 6.

No release date has been given for Mononoke just yet, but given the festival premiere, later this year seems likely on that one too. Phantom in the Rain is the first of a planned trilogy remaking the stylish cult anime show from 2007.

Dandadan is adapting the hit manga by Yukinobu Tatsu, about two high school students, one a ghost sceptic and the other a UFO-denier, who test each other’s cynicisms to increasingly ridiculous levels. The first two episodes were shown at Anime Expo 2024 to extremely positive reactions.

Ranma 1/2 is remaking a classic ’80s series about a young martial artist who switches gender when they’re hit with certain temperatures.

We’ve reached out to Netflix for comment, and will update if we hear back.
