2024 is finally here along with an interesting line-up of anime movies – so here’s a list of eight best upcoming movies you need to watch this year.

2024 has released all the anticipated Winter series, and there’s more to come in the next quarter. While series such as Solo Leveling and Classroom of the Elite are getting a lot of buzz, anime enthusiasts can also expect some amazing movies this year.

Anime movies are often more under-appreciated than TV shows. Every year, the number of movies released is significantly lesser than series, an incredible anime tends to blend in with the crowd as the collection refreshes each year. 

However, 2024 is going to be an incredible year for anime movies. The line-up not only has anticipated stand-alone movies but also canon or side stories from popular franchises. Here’s a look at the eight best upcoming anime movies in 2024.

1. Haikyu!! Movie: Battle of the Garbage Dump

Haikyu’s previous season aired in 2020, leaving fans hanging for the match they wanted to see the most. The series has hyped up the Kurasuno vs. Nekoma match since the beginning. The match will be adapted into two movies. The first movie be released theatrically in Japan on February 16, 2024. However, the international release date has yet to be announced, but it will likely be in 2024.

2. Given Movie: Hiiragi Mix

Given is a boy’s love and music anime centering around Mafuyu Sato and his band members. As Mafuyu is unable to deal with his past trauma, he meets Ritsuka Uenoyama and joins his band while discovering his love for music. The franchise will release the sequel movie in two parts, and the first one will be released theatrically in Japan on January 27, 2024. 

3. Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction

This upcoming anime movie will be released on March 22, 2024. A GAGA production, Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction, is set in Tokyo, where aliens have engulfed the city. Three years ago, humanity faced the biggest war after the arrival of “invaders.” Although the world seems to have changed, people’s daily lives remain the same. The story follows Kadode Koyama and Ouran Nakagawa, who live normal school lives until they realize the real threat isn’t invaders but humans.

4. Blue Lock: Episode Nagi

Blue Lock is one of the most popular Shonen series ever. Blue Lock: Episode Nagi is an upcoming anime movie that is all set to hit the Japanese theatres on April 19, 2024. The global release date has yet to be revealed. The movie is based on the spin-off series following Seishirou Nagi and Reo Mikage exploring their games during the Blue Lock dispute.

5. Code Geass: Dakkan no Rozé

Code Geass, a classic mech series, will release the movie in Japanese theatres in May 2024. This new project will have four movies, following siblings Rozé and Ashe. The trailer features how far animation technology has come in recent years, with the animation being far more fluid and vivid than the original anime. The movie will feature the usual Code Geass gore since the trailer is as bloody as it gets.

6. Trapezium

Produced by Aniplex, this upcoming movie is made by the popular animation studio CloverWorks. It depicts the ten years of Yuu Azuma, a high school girl who aspires to be an idol. For the sake of her dream, she sets four rules she must follow. She will not use social media or have a boyfriend. She will also not stand out in school and make friends with beautiful girls from the north, south, east, and west. This anime movie will be released on May 10, 2024

7. My Hero Academia: The Movie

The fourth My Hero Academia anime movie will be released in Summer 2024. The film was announced in Jump Festa 2024, along with a teaser and key visual. The mangaka Kōhei Horikoshi will serve as the general supervisor and original character designer. The movie will have an original story and won’t be a continuation of the manga. However, the story will take place around the same time as where the anime is currently, with the collapse of a safe society.

8. Kimi no Iro

Produced by TOHO and STORY, this upcoming movie is made by the popular animation studio Science SARU. The movie follows Totsuko, a high school girl from Nagasaki City who attends a mission school. However, she is far from ordinary, as she can see people’s emotions as colors. She forms a band with a girl with beautiful colors and a boy who loves music.
