An Apex Legends developer has confirmed that changes will be coming to the controversial gold knockdown shield, though, they’re playing their cards close to the chest as to exactly when they’ll be revealed.

With Respawn Entertainment making a number of changes to Ranked play in Season 13, Apex Legends players have had plenty of new things to get to grips with after the update.

The changes to Ranked were, at first, welcomed by the community but they’ve caused headaches since. Not only are players frustrated by the new distribution of ranks, but gold knockdown shields have also been a sore point.

Players – both casual and professional – have regularly complained about the survival item’s power in Ranked, calling for them to be removed outright. While that isn’t going to happen, changes are coming eventually.

Ranked Reloaded arrived with Season 13 update.

The topic of the knockdown shields was brought up to Respawn’s Evan Nikolich during an interview with The Loadout, and the design director for Apex Legends noted that they’ve heard the feedback.

“I will not commit to anything at this time, but we are evaluating and changes will be coming in the future,” Nikolich said, urging fans to continue making their voices heard with regard to feedback.

Obviously, it would be nice to have a point as to when the change might come down the pipe, but Respawn are clearly working hard to address the issue given they’ve now doubled down on a change.

Previously, game designer John ‘JayBiebs’ Larson noted that he’d also heard the complaints about the power of the shield’s self-revive, and suggested it may get tuned down.

We’ll just have to wait and see as to when the changes will be rolled out, but at least there will be a tweak and it’s not just being ignored.
