Apex Legends Season 1 has finally launched, and brought with it a brand new character named Octane for fans to get their hands on.

UPDATE – March 18, 2019

With the official announcement for Apex Legends’ Season 1 Battle Pass came the full reveal of Octane.

After blowing his legs off in a record-breaking gauntlet speed-run, Octavio “Octane” Silva is diving into the Apex Games with metal legs and even bigger ambitions. He’s searching for the ultimate adrenaline rush by using his death-defying moves to become an Apex Champion.

His Adrenaline Junkie ability lets him trade health for speed, and an endless supply of Stim health regeneration means he’s always ready for action. His Launch Pad Ultimate Ability lets his squad fly through the air with the greatest of ease. Jump into Apex Legends and play Octane today!

Octane was officially introduced to Apex Legends on Tuesday, March 19, with the release of the Wild Frontiers patch for the massively popular battle royale game.

The update ushered in the start of Apex Legends Season 1, and also released the brand new Battle Pass, although some fans are not impressed with the content found in it.

Octane is the ninth Legend to make an appearance in the game, and here is everything we know about the new character.

The upcoming Legend is ready to create mayhem in King’s Canyon.

Who is Octane?

For Apex Legends fans who have been wondering who Octane is, Respawn Entertainment have provided a full backstory to allow players to learn the history of the latest Legend.

Octavio Silva, known by his alias ‘Octane’, is a “record-breaking gauntlet speed-runner,” who lost his legs during one of these events. Now standing on two metal legs, the adrenaline junkie is searching for the ultimate rush, a victory in Kings Canyon and the opportunity to be named an Apex Champion.

UPDATE – March 17, 2019

On March 17, fans were treated with yet another leak showing another look at the full character model.

While Respawn Entertainment have yet to announce anything regarding the new Legends coming to the game, several leaks have offered a hint at the potential new releases.

Most prominent among them is “Octane”, whose name first appeared in a data mined leak, but about whom further details now appear to have surfaced.

While nothing is yet confirmed, and such leaks must be taken with a grain of salt, here’s everything we know so far about the potential new Legend.

Who is Octane?

Unfortunately, details surrounding the character himself are essentially non-existent at this point. Nothing about the Octane’s backstory has been leaked, so players are left with only speculation based on supposed leaked images of the Legend, of which there have been a few.

Fans got a better look at the character in a since-deleted Reddit post which looked to show a promo photo about the Legend being in the works.

While apparently human based on his upper body, Octane’s legs and knees appear to be robotic, suggesting they might have been amputated – perhaps as a result of a serious injury sustained in pursuit of an extreme activity, considering he appears to have an ability called “adrenaline junkie”.

What are Octane’s abilities?

Octane’s abilities revolve around making sure he stays in the fight, with his Passive Ability called Swift Mend providing him with constant healing in the middle of intense battle. Octane can trade some of his health out for a 30% speed boost though, allowing him to continue his daredevil antics at breakneck speeds.

Octane’s Ultimate Ability lets him throw down a Launch Pad, which any member of his team can use. This can be especially useful to rotate around the map, or to gain elevation in a fight and bring showers of bullets raining down on enemy players.

Passive Ability: Swift Mend

While not taking damage, Octane restores health over time.

Tactical Ability: Stim

Move 30% faster for 8 seconds. Costs 10% Health. Immune to slows while active.

Ultimate Ability: Launch Pad

Deployable jump pad that catapults users through the air.

What kind of Apex Legends player should use Octane?

Octane is perfect for players who love fast-paced action and plenty of movement. Octane’s Swift Mend ability means you are constantly healing as long as you’re not taking damage, allowing players to be a little more reckless in their approach to gunfights. Players can also trade out some of their health for a huge speed boost, allowing them to charge at opponents at incredble velocity, or escape an enemy squad if the battle isn’t going their way.

Octane’s Launch Pad Ultimate Ability is a perfect rotation tool to escape the ring, or to push into an enemy-controlled area in hopes of eliminating them.

Octane’s Launch Pad is great for rotations or launching an aerial assault on opponents.

While Apex Legends fans will be excited to finally try out Octane, they’ll be glad to hear that he isn’t the only new character slated to join the battle royale title. Data miners have previously found information regarding a new Legend named Wattson, although there is no official word on when the character will be added to the game.

The Wild Frontier update is available on Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4 right now.

Octane’s ‘callouts’ have also been added to the game, as well as his finisher moves, according to leaker @ApexLeaksNews.

*Update: March 14*

@Shrugtal on Twitter, who has covered a lot of the data leaks with Apex Legends, has now confirmed the name for one of Octane’s finishers.

The new finisher listed as “Full Throttle,” was apparently confirmed by Respawn support staff when a player could not access content from one of their Apex Packs, the apparent chat log has been posted on Reddit, although there has been no official confirmation yet from Respawn Studios.

According to this bug found by players the Apex Legends Season One Battle Pass should have already been released.

When is Octane being released?

Whoever the first new Legend is, they will be arriving during Apex’s Season One, which is set to kick off in March. Exactly when Season One will begin, and whether or not the new Legend will be available immediately or sometime later in the season, remain unknown.

Octane isn’t the only Legend name to have been seemingly leaked, however. A number of others have been identified by data miners, most notably “Wattson”, for whom abilities such as the “Tesla Trap” appear to have been found.

While it’s worth taking all leaks with a grain of salt until anything is confirmed, the extent of the leaks surrounding Octane do suggest that he’s a real Legend and likely to be the first to join the game’s roster.

*Update: March 12*

An Origin leak appears to have prematurely advertised the beginning of Apex Legends Season One, seemingly confirming that Octane will in fact be released with the inaugural season. Respawn has yet to officially announce a release date for Season 1.

This is an updating post and will be updated any time new information about Octane is discovered prior to the in-game release of the Legend.
