A Baldur’s Gate 3 player has slammed the community for showing no sympathy at the Githyanki Creche.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s nuanced storytelling challenges players at every turn. Some characters who seem to walk the path of good later prove themselves less than noble. And countless users can probably attest to wrongfully judging an NPC they initially perceived as evil.

But a few narrative arcs in the RPG have divided fans about what constitutes right and wrong. The Githyanki Creche quest represents one such point of division. Recruiting Lae’zel opens up the side quest, which revolves around the Creche possibly housing a cure for the protagonist’s Mind Flayer Parasite.

Later during the mission, players get presented with the option to kill all Githyanki in the Creche. Previously learning about the race’s heinous deeds may make the decision easier for some than others. However, one person argues the choice isn’t so cut and dry.

Baldur’s Gate 3 player says the Githyanki deserve more sympathy

The fan in question, a Redditor named yesoryes, sparked the discussion by arguing, “there’s not enough sympathy for the Githyanki at the crèche.”

Interestingly, the BG3 player noted that sparing the Githyanki unlocks fascinating dialogue options. One sees the protagonist speak with a young member of the race who commends the player’s compassion.

Another conversation involves a Githyanki caretaker who was nearly killed at birth for hatching last. The Redditor asked, “How many Githyanki were killed because they were perceived as being weak?”

They go on to lament how often discussions in the subreddit devolve into fans bragging about killing everyone in the Creche just because the entire race gets labeled as “bloodthirsty killers.”

BG3 fans in the Reddit thread seem split on this thinking about the Githyanki. One person stated the race doesn’t receive sympathy because “they murder everyone that bothers them on their quest to kill mind flayers.”

Another Baldur’s Gate 3 user shared a similar sentiment, writing, “Creche Y’llek slaughtered an entire monastery of Lathander monks, refugees, and fists. Don’t think they deserve much sympathy.”

Someone else took the middle ground, drawing attention to the complications surrounding the Githyanki, yet still calling them an “evil race of people in general.” While there are exceptions, this person said they shouldn’t all be approached with open arms.

One highly-upvoted comment approached the topic from a different angle, explaining that “The Githyanki at the creche do not deserve mercy. Githyanki as a race deserve some amount of sympathy because kindness is crushed out of them.”

Like several other aspects of Baldur’s Gate 3, the Githyanki Creche storyline is one that will spur lots of discussion for a long time to come.
