Baldur’s Gate 3 has a chance at history with sweeping BAFTAs nominations
Larian StudiosBaldur’s Gate 3 has added ten BAFTA nominations to its impressive list of accolades, with the game having now been nominated for a total of 56 industry awards since release.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was one of the most successful games of 2023. Since releasing for PC in August of 2023, the game has been nominated for a slew of awards.
And it’s gone on to win many of them, breaking Naughty Dog’s Golden Joystick record for the Last of Us 2, as well as cleaning up at the Game Awards.
Now, the game’s leading the nominations at this year’s BAFTA, with a total of ten. Two more than Elden Ring, and just three shy of the 13 received by the Last of Us 2 in 2021— the most nominations received by a single title in the history of BAFTA’s Game Awards.
Naughty Dog ended up taking home three wins out of the 13 nominations for their gripping action-adventure game. While Larian Studios can’t beat their record for nominations, they could still walk away with more awards under their belt.
Plus, changes made to the BAFTA game awards this year could potentially prove a boon for Baldur’s Gate 3.
Previously, a jury of industry experts decided the winner in the category of Best Game, but this year BAFTA has opened voting for Best Game to all 1,000 of its members. The game’s popularity and the larger pool of votes being cast could boost Larian’s advantage in that category.
Putting aside all the buzz around the BAFTAs, BG3 has already racked up a total of 56 nominations across prominent industry awards.
Of those 56 nominations, 26 of them are still pending. Among them are the ten from BAFTA, and eight nominations from the Game Developer’s Choice Awards.
While there’s no guarantee how many of the pending nominations Baldur’s Gate 3 will win, the game has seen impressive success at industry awards. They’ve won 22 of their 56 nominations so far.
