Baldur’s Gate 3 players are scheming up the worst class for each companion

These Baldur’s Gate 3 fans are coming together to cook up some of the most egregious class combinations for their party members.

It’s one of the first considerations any RPG player has to make when crafting a character: what class am I going to play? Your choice impacts everything from chit-chat to combat, so it’s not to be taken lightly. Baldur’s Gate 3 captures this part of the experience perfectly.

Thankfully, Withers can respec any of your Baldur’s Gate 3 party members for a modest price. This means that, while this feature can be used to undo some regrettable Tav builds, you can also change the assigned class of any of the game’s playable characters.

This has sparked Redditors to brainstorm some pretty heinous class combos for their allies. From roles they’d hate to fill to ones they’d just be plain bad at.

In a slightly sadistic twist, players really latched onto the notion of Shadowheart as Beastmaster Ranger with a wolf companion or as a Druid that wild shapes into a wolf. Given her intense phobia of wolves, one player asked, “would it mean that she’s constantly having to make saves against the fear debuff?”

Another common suggestion was Gale as a Barbarian. This idea has obvious comedic value due to Gale’s sweet, conflict-averse nature, but it becomes even more hilarious after you hear his Barbarian Rage shout. Rather than appearing intimidating, one commenter said the weedy Waterdhavian just “sounds like he’s angry over a book getting wet”.

With Withers’ help, you can make your Baldur’s Gate 3 pals any class you want them to be. That doesn’t mean you should.

Others pointed out that having Astarion as a Paladin or Life Domain Cleric could really complicate things, given that his allegiances would compel him to wipe out the undead — a bit of an awkward situation for a vampire to be in.

Plenty of players agreed on both Karlach and Wyll being far too excitable to be sneaky Rogues. Meanwhile, Minthara’s beef with Wizards makes that a pretty obvious class for her. Lae’zel delivers a pretty hardcore vicious mockery, so despite her low charisma, she makes a pretty entertaining bard.
