Baldur’s Gate 3 players can’t take Act 3’s “weeb” villain seriously
Larian StudiosBaldur’s Gate 3 players have taken a new stance on one of the game’s most prominent antagonists, though it might not be the perspective that he would want.
The wide range of villains in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a big part of what makes the story so compelling. When you add in the fact that you could treat several other characters as antagonists, depending on how you roleplay, the possibilities are nearly limitless, and that’s before we’ve even touched on Durge playthroughs.
However, not all villains are born equal, and there’s one late-game antagonist that just doesn’t command the same presence as the rest of the rogues gallery.
It was always going to be a tough act following Act 2’s Ketheric Thorm, especially with JK Simmons’ impeccable voice-acting, but players just don’t feel the same way about Enver Gortash, chosen of Bane.
Baldur’s Gate 3 players just don’t feel intimidated by Gortash
Ironically, Gortash is meant to be the most imposing of the Dead Three. As the Chosen of the tyranny god, you’d expect him to be more intimidating, but he’s pretty chill in person, and offers you a place at his side ruling the world almost immediately when you reach Act 3.
To cap it all off, players just aren’t sold on his style, which doesn’t match the look that Ketheric and Orin were going for.
One player on the Baldur’s Gate subreddit asked: “Am I the only one who can’t take Gortash seriously? Like seriously, the guy looks like a middle-aged Weeb cosplaying Final Fantasy.”
Several players agreed, with one comment reading: “When they referred to him as the handsome man in my second playthrough I fricken guffawed, like there’s no way they thought that hairstyle with that old dude face went well together.”
It doesn’t help that the narration insists that Gortash is a young, handsome man, despite his model looking significantly older.
