Baldur’s Gate 3 players praise new dialogue for giving Astarion standards
Larian StudiosA new BG3 patch added dialogue that lets Astarion confront players if they had a fling with Mizora while romancing him.
The third act of Baldur’s Gate 3 allows players to pursue a fleeting romance with Mizora, a character who proves essential to Wyll’s backstory.
This fling can cause trouble in some respects, especially if the player has already locked in their desired romance partner in previous chapters. Some NPCs accept the player character’s affair with Mizora. For example, players have reported that Shadowheart doesn’t mind so long as her own needs are still met.
But many thought it strange that Spawn Astarion never had a stronger reaction when learning about the dalliance. The RPG’s newly released Patch 6 managed to address all of that and more.
Spawn Astarion gets new dialogue options in BG3’s Patch 6
Following the recent rollout of Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 6, eagle-eyed fans discovered proof of brand-new dialogue lines for Astarion. The new options are specific to Vampire Spawn Astarion and only surface if the player and Mizora sleep together.
In sharing the news, Reddit user rachel-angelina noted that previous lines for this scenario now belong to Ascended Astarion. The Redditor explained: “I personally think this is a great differentiation and makes more sense for his character, the dialogue that was there before always seemed like it was meant for ascended.”
In confronting the player about the affair, Astarion now questions whether they can be trusted. A particularly cutting line will see him state: “Even I deserve better than this.”
While Astarion may accept an apology, apparently only Tavs who pass a “charisma check” will wind up back in his good graces.
BG3 players in the Reddit thread agree that Spawn Astarion’s updated dialogue options seem more appropriate for this version of the character. Said one such fan, “I like the job they’re doing differentiating spawn and AA. This dialogue suits spawn very well!”
Others are applauded Larian for highlighting Astarion’s growth: “‘I see everything I’ve been trying to escape in you’ damn. They’re really expanding on his growth.”
And some seem especially pleased that the new options give the beloved BG3 character standards. “Finally! I knew it in my gut my boy had standards,” someone chimed in.
A similar comment reads, “Absolutely love this addition, he has standards after all.”
It seems Baldur’s Gate 3 characters still have some growing to do. Whether or not Larian will continue to explore as much in post-launch patches remains to be seen.
