KSI explains why he’s giving back his Misfits boxing title
DAZNYouTube star KSI has explained why he’s giving back his Misfits cruiserweight champion title, stating he has “other plans.”
After kicking off the whole trend in 2018, KSI has been one of the pioneers of influencer boxing. Taking a brief hiatus from stepping into the ring, the YouTube star returned in 2022 with a bang, facing two opponents in one night.
Not only that, his boxing promotion company Misfits landed a five-year deal with DAZN, putting more influencers than ever in the ring throughout 2023.
KSI too had his fair share of fights throughout the year, touching gloves with FaZe Clan co-founder Temperrr, the ‘boxing billionaire’ Joe Fournier, and Tommy Fury in the highly anticipated Prime Card.
KSI announces he’s giving back his Misfits boxing title
Despite being given his first loss at the hands of Fury in late 2023, KSI still holds Misfits’ cruiserweight crown. However, on January 29, the Prime co-founder announced in a post on Twitter/X that he would be relinquishing his boxing title, explaining that he has other plans in the works.
“I have enjoyed the honor of being The Misfits Cruiserweight Champion immensely,” he wrote. “I have other plans in the pipeline and it wouldn’t be fair for me to hold that title any longer so…”
He added: “I am relinquishing the belt and a new champion will be crowned on the next Survivor Tag!”
The announcement came following a call out from popular Misfits fighter Slim ‘The Hitman’ Albaher, who was gunning for a shot at taking on KSI for the title.
With that said, it’s unclear what’ll be in store next for the British YouTube star, whether it be a fight with long-time rival Jake Paul or a bout with ‘The Notorious’ UFC star Conor McGregor who he’s been eyeing up for quite some time.
KSI claimed it’d be unlikely he’d fight again. However, the YouTuber has since confirmed he’ll be getting back in the ring at some point in 2024 — but his opponent remains a mystery.
