Ryan Garcia hits out at Oscar De La Hoya and Devin Haney as he dismisses next opponent reveal
John LocherRyan Garcia has dismissed the notion his next fight will be against Jose Ramirez, despite promoter Oscar De La Hoya suggesting as much.
De La Hoya took to X earlier this week to announce a fight between Garcia and the former unified super-lightweight world champion was ‘getting close and happening’.
Garcia is rebuilding at super-lightweight after a crushing loss for the WBA lightweight world title to Gervonta Davis last year and a fight with Ramirez, a former champion, was seen as a big test of his credentials at 140 pounds.
However, ‘King Ry’ has taken to social media himself to rule that fight out of the equation as he posted on X: “No Ramirez. Let’s make that clear.”
Garcia hits out at Haney and De La Hoya
Another mooted opponent for Garcia is former unified lightweight world champion and current WBC super-lightweight champion Devin Haney.
Responding to Garcia’s tweet ruling out a fight with Ramirez, Haney couldn’t resist firing a taunt towards his rival, tweeting: “U scared to death of me.”
Former six-weight world champion De La Hoya saw the funny side and replied: “@RyanGarcia just please do not hit me in my abs, I just got them done.”
Despite Garcia’s protestations, though, De La Hoya continued to talk up a fight with Ramirez, who he has just signed on a promotional basis as well, on X.
In an exchange with one fan, De La Hoya described the potential fight as a ‘great matchup’ and responded ‘yes’ to another tweet which read: “Pretty good fight. [Ramirez was] Competitive with Taylor, glad they ain’t forcing Ryan back.”
