Black Ops 4 August 9 update fixes broken sliding, but with a catch – patch notes

Albert Petrosyan

Call of Duty developers Treyarch have released another update in Black Ops 4, one targeted at fixing a major sliding issue that recently popped up in multiplayer.

Many Call of Duty players, casual and competitive alike, were thrown off and frustrated by a broken slide mechanic that appeared in Black Ops 4 following the update released on August 6.

The new movement saw players given a boost when entering the sliding animation, suddenly allowing them to go much farther and fast than ever before.

Thankfully, after a couple of days of complaints from the player-base, Treyarch released a patch on August 9 that has worked to address the issue, at least to a certain extent, by restoring the original slide velocity for all Specialists.

However, only the corrections made to the Battery, Crash, Firebreak, Prophet, Recon, Ruin, Zero, Torque, Nomad, and Spectre are now live. The adjustments for Seraph, Ajax, Outride, and Reaper will be made in next week’s update, due to “technical limitations.”

The broken slide mechanic in Black Ops 4 has been fixed, but only for a few of the Specialists so far.

Addressing the sliding issue wasn’t the only purpose of the August 9 patch, which also included changes to both Zombies and Blackout battle royale.

In Zombies, the Vapr-XKG, Swordfish, and new Havelina AA50 Sniper Rifle all received increased headshot damage when fully Pack-a-Punched with High Caliber is equipped.

The buff to the Havelina was implemented on the PlayStation 4 only, since Xbox One and PC have not yet received the new weapon, which will be available sometime next week.

As for Blackout, the update implemented several adjustments to the new Pandemic mode, in which players who get eliminated turn into zombies with super-human abilities.

Changes include a reduced zombie respawn timer, increased range of zombie melee attacks, reduced chances for zombies to spawn outside of the circle, and more.

Blackout’s new Pandemic mode received some major changes on August 9.

Pandemic Updates, Sliding Adjustments, and Zombies Weapon Tuning

In today’s maintenance update, we’ve made new adjustments to Pandemic thanks in part to community feedback and internal data. Zombies will now respawn faster and have more of a fighting chance against the living, and all surviving squads will now properly see the Victory screen if they make it to the end of the match.

In MP, we’ve begun rolling out updates to restore the original slide velocity for all Specialists, with corrections for Battery, Crash, Firebreak, Prophet, Recon, Ruin, Zero, Torque, Nomad, and Spectre now live. Due to technical limitations, adjustments for Seraph, Ajax, Outrider, and Reaper will be incoming in an update next week.

In Zombies, we’ve increased the headshot damage for fully Pack-a-Punched versions of the Vapr-XKG, Swordfish, and Havelina AA50 with High Caliber equipped. See below for the full list of changes.
