MLG and Scuf Gaming Release ‘Behind the Controller’ Showcasing Rise of CWL Caster and Host Benson
MLG and Scuf have released their first ‘Behind the Controller’ episode which doesn’t focus on a Call of Duty professional player, but rather once a wannabe player turned Caster and Host for the CWL, Benson.
Fan favorite caster and host Ben “Benson” Bowe is known for enthusiasm, knowledge of the game and signature British charm – which is slowly being absorbed into an American twang.
He is now one of the most recongizable faces in all of the CWL broadcast team, as one of the main desk hosts as well as match commentator, employed full time with Activision’s MLG for over two years.
But like most in his industry, Benson started from humble beginnings, casting matches between his friends online, to attending low budget LAN tournaments in Hotel function suite’s and working for free – just to get his name out there.
In a ‘Behind the Controller’ episode released on May 24th, Benson discusses developing his passion for gaming, his attempts to be a pro player (which were shut down by now retired EU player Ellis “Blackk” Strouthos) and his early casting days.
All the way to casting the Call of Duty World Championship grand final alongside legendary caster Chris “Puckett” Puckett, his move to the US and dealing with the loss of his father, a major influence on his life.
For aspiring esports casters and hosts, he explains that there is no set route into the industry, but that passion and perseverance are key – and a helping of luck.
With Puckett recently departing the CWL to move across to Overwatch and the OWL, Benson has assumed the role of the primary desk host, and has been praised for his work ethic and ability in taking over from Puckett.
Benson will be on the desk and in the casting booth for the remainder of the ongoing Stage Two CWL Pro League, and you can of course watch him and all the action on Twitch and MLG.
