MW3 fans split as devs ban all sniper rifles in Ranked Play
ActivisionThe MW3 community is split down the middle on the recent announcement that all sniper rifles were banned in the game’s Ranked Play.
The Ranked Play mode of MW3 provides players a place to play the game with a more competitive edge and mindset.
As such, the game mode often removes certain weapons from the rotation that the devs feel are too unbalanced to make the playing field a little more even.
However, these decisions can be rather controversial, as is the case with the newly announced removal of all sniper rifles from MW3’s Ranked Play.
MW3 community doesn’t know how to feel about all snipers being removed from ranked
After the patch notes for today’s release revealed that all sniper rifles would be removed from Ranked Play, a fan took to the MW3 subreddit to start the discussion.
They started it off by saying: “There’s gonna be a lot of unhappy folks out here.”
And, for the most part, that was correct, though there is an equal amount of people who are happy about it.
“They really call it a shooter game but restrict 90% of the weapons, can someone find the irony here? Wait for Season 3 until all SMGs, besides the Rival-9, are getting restricted too.”
It has been a point of contention as the MW3 devs have continued to remove weapons from Ranked Play, but having every single sniper rifle being banned seems to be a tipping point for some.
“… the selection now is even more limited than Halo lmao. At least there you can actually have a BR and Sniper.”
However, there are plenty of fans of the decision, with one user saying, “Good now I won’t die 3 seconds into a round on Highrise.”
Snipers are apparently a cause of frustration for a lot of players, and these fans feel that they shouldn’t be in Ranked, or even the casual modes:
“Might have to start playing ranked. I wish there was a no snipers casual mode.”
These decisions and changes will always draw the ire of some players, but it is a little odd to have the consensus be split so evenly.
