Destiny 2 fans want Dares of Eternity update that would “do wonders”

Xur’s rework in The Final Shape introduced several positive changes to the Destiny 2 vendor, but an unintended side effect is that there’s now little reason to play Dares of Eternity.

As part of Xur’s rework, Bungie made Strange Coins the primary currency to purchase rewards from his weekly stock. Spending these gives a range of useful items including Exotics, weapons, materials, and even Exotic Class Items.

However, it also removed Strange Coins from Dares of Eternity, leaving the legacy playlist’ with few rewards worth farming. Once you have gotten all of its craftable weapons, it’s hard to justify playing anymore, as the regular loot isn’t viable in the current meta.

Frustrated by this, Destiny 2 players are calling for a rework of its rewards. One highly upvoted Reddit post insisted, “Dares of Eternity needs an update,” before elaborating, “Now that Strange Coins & Starhorse engrams have been removed, Dares is essentially a 12-15 minute activity with exactly 2 rewards: 1 legendary engram and 1 treasure key.”

First released as part of the 30th Anniversary Pack, Dares of Eternity has received very few updates over the last three years. It still has the same loot pool as it did back in Season 15, consisting of weapons like Scathelocke, Far Future, and Threaded Needle, all of which have become victims of power creep.

Proposing how to fix this problem, one user suggested, “Even just updating it once a season with a new map and/or some new weapons would do wonders for those modes,” believing new content would encourage players to return, with a loot refresh being the preferred option.

Another Guardian urged, “Dares needs an insane overhaul, it was exciting on release because of the fanfare but it got old fast,” before asking Bungie to, “make it so Starhorse has all that week’s rotating weapons that you can buy using a strange key,” a change that would likely take the form of a focusing system, allowing players to farm specific weapons.

The simplest idea suggested was for the developers to “just turn on Lightning Rounds permanently,” as Lightning Rounds increase rewards when active. They are rare, but make farming weapons much easier. If this became a standard feature, Dares of Eternity’s huge loot table would be easier to farm.

The community wants a Dares of Eternity update to rejuvenate it, but there’s no sign of that coming anytime soon. However, changes like these aren’t impossible as Bungie has shown a willingness to update older content, as seen when it overhauled Prophecy’s loot table in Season 23.
