Destiny 2 patch accidentally nerfed fan-favorite exotic

The August 6 patch for Destiny 2 accidentally nerfed the Graviton Lance, and there’s no set date for when players can expect a fix.

Beloved among players for its damage output and black hole shots, the Graviton Lance continues to undergo balance-related tweaks. Bungie has buffed and nerfed the Exotic Pulse Rifle multiple times, yet the latest change went live by mistake.

Destiny 2’s August 6 patch should’ve fixed an issue where Pulse Rifles displayed RPM as 395 instead of 300. The changelog promised such an adjustment would have no impact on weapons outside of visual appearances – this has since proven incorrect.

As spotted by players on Reddit, the update “indirectly nerfed” the Graviton Lance, so the exotic “now shoots way slower” than it did pre-patch.

One person replying to the post lamented, “Just noticed this. It’s awful.”

Someone else in the thread added, “nah… definitely more than a visual fix. you can tell it is a lot slower.”

Developers have already addressed the issue in a Twitter/X post on the official Bungie Help account. However, fans hoping for a quick fix may have to exercise patience, since the team won’t resolve the Graviton Lance glitch until an unspecified “future update.”

The studio’s message to Destiny 2 players reads as follows, “We’ve identified an issue where Graviton Lance is firing at a slower rate of fire than intended. This will be addressed in a future update.”

Several users in the comments expressed their dissatisfaction with the indefinite wait. Some believe that had the patch incidentally buffed the rifle, a hotfix would’ve gone live right away.

Reads one such reply, “This would have been fixed within hours if it was firing way faster than intended.”

Another frustrated player sarcastically wrote, “Please don’t worry, just keep nerfing the fun out of the game cause that will get more people to play.”

Then again, a series of layoffs and cancellations related to Destiny means those still working at Bungie may be prioritizing other things.
