Destiny 2 players have given up after “absurd” Exotic class item changes
BungieDestiny 2’s 8.0.5 patch went live on August 6, bringing with it, among other things, changes to Exotic class item drop rates, and initial impressions from players haven’t been positive.
With them being a key piece of kit for any Guardians wanting to construct Prismatic builds, Bungie has faced repeated calls since The Final Shape’s launch to review the difficulty of farming for different Exotic class item rolls.
The developer finally deployed balance adjustments intended to address said issues, but either by design or oversight, they appear to have made the loot hunt even longer.
The official tweaks are as follows:
- Adjusted chances for acquiring Exotic class items from chests to be more generous.
- Increased progression on escalation chest chances.
- Removed progression on world chest chances.
- World chests can still drop the item but won’t increase drop chances from future chests.
Despite the buffs, a Reddit post slamming the post-patch rate of obtaining class items has been heavily upvoted, with one player insisting “Three Overthrows for one Exotic class item, this is absurd.”
They later added that it “Takes less time doing a single Dual Destiny run rather than three Overthrows.”
While the author admitted they could have fallen victim to “bad RNG,” others shared similar experiences.
“I gave up after two Overthrows and nothing to show for it,” came one reply. “I have done five and have not received a class item,” another lamented.
A shared pain point was confusion over Bungie’s decision to reduce drop rates for class items from World chests, with one community member insisting, “It was so clear this was going to end up being a nerf. Running around and opening World chests was way easier.”
While the drop rate changes have been received negatively by players, it’s worth noting that weekly completions of Dual Destiny now award an additional Exotic class item drop, so there’s extra incentive to farm the co-op mission.
