Destiny 2’s annual Solstice event goes live on August 6’s weekly reset, bringing with it several new rewards to chase, including a Shotgun guaranteed to dominate Crucible.

Alongside the usual set of decorative armor, all three classes can earn a handful of weapons, including Compass Rose, which will be up for grabs for the event’s duration.

First introduced in Season of the Splicer, the returnee’s refreshed perk pool makes it an enticing prospect for Crucible enthusiasts. Compass Rose belongs to the same Shotgun archetype as Matador 64, and its 2024 iteration boasts the same top-tier perks, cementing its place in the PvP meta.

As an event drop, it will be much easier to farm than Matador, which isn’t craftable and only drops from Grasp of Avarice, making this the perfect option for Guardians looking for a top-tier Shotgun to use in PvP.

Best Compass Rose PvP god roll

The best perks for Compass Rose in PvP are:

  • Barrel: Hammer-Forged Rifling
  • Magazine: Accurized Rounds
  • Perk 1: Slickdraw, Slideshot, or Threat Detector
  • Perk 2: Opening Shot or Snapshot Sights
  • Masterwork: Range

While Barrel and Magazine choices are locked in, Guardians must decide which perks best suit them for the first and second perk columns.

Slideshot and Slickdraw are both fantastic for Shotguns, but require setup and give a penalty Aim Assistance, so you’ll need to consider these drawbacks. Threat Detector, however, provides passive buffs automatically whenever you’re near opposing Guardians, making it a great fit on a close-range weapon like Compass Rose.

As a bonus, Compass Rose gets access to two Origin Trait perks, Dream Work and Nadir Focus. The latter is borderline redundant on Shotguns, so Dream Work is the winner. Its conditional auto-reload essentially acts as an alternative to Slideshot, automatically reloading the magazine from reserves.

How exactly Compass Rose will be obtained during Solstice won’t be known until the event goes live. Still, if previous iterations of the celebration are any indication, players will have easy access, as it should be a reward for simply partaking in the event’s main activity.

If you’ve been grinding Grasp of Avarice on and off again for Matador 64 with no luck, this will be a far less painful grind. If it’s a Kinetic slot Shotgun you need instead, Someday might be an even better choice.
