Diablo 4 players slam “annoying” Season 3 traps
Blizzard EntertainmentDiablo 4 Season 3 is off to a mixed start, but the abundance of deadly traps in dungeons has players more annoyed than entertained.
Season 3 of Diablo 4 is all about discovering the ancient mechanical relics of Zoltun Kulle, a fan-favorite ally turned enemy, turned reluctant ally again from Diablo 3. The character was a mad genius who was known for creating harmful inventions that could be used as weapons and filled his workshops with deadly traps to deter intruders.
Now Season 3 is live, players will be spending a lot of time delving into Zolton Kulle’s workshops which have since become infested with demons, or worse, demons have possessed the old sorcerer’s mechanical monstrosities. This sounds like it would be fun, but it’s starting to sound like the game has gone a little bit overboard on the traps in Season 3.
While the Diablo 4 Season 3 trailer made it crystal clear we were going to be seeing more fiendish traps this season, this addition to gameplay has already started to irritate a segment of the player base. Some feel that the overreliance on traps in Season 3 is more annoying than innovative, and has made gameplay seem cheap.
One disgruntled player said on Reddit: “Is anyone sick to death of the trap BS already? Sorry, but they’re just a gigantic hindrance in clearing areas causing it to be slow and annoying. I watched the stream where they said they were adding more traps to dungeons but this is wildly ridiculous and I’m already about to quit.”
Another said: “I don’t understand their obsession with trying to waste our time. Like man, these empty trap rooms aren’t hard, they’re just annoying and I have to waste time running through them when it could have just been a normal room full of monsters to kill, which is the fun part of the game.”
Others were more ambivalent saying: “I’ve never really noticed them enough to be bothered.” While some players saw them as a refreshing change of pace, saying:
“I like them. It adds a different mode. I don’t think slowing down is an issue if it’s for problem-solving. I think a lot of people go into this kinda game with a mentality of just destroying everything mindlessly which to me is just not very fun.”
While the traps do exist to hinder the player and encourage them to engage in something other than combat, we can see why some committed Diablo players find this jarring.
After all, Diablo is a game about hacking up hordes of demons rather than problem-solving. However, basic puzzles have always been part of the series, and Season 3 of Diablo 4 may simply be leaning into this aspect of the franchise’s heritage.
