Diablo 4 Season 7 patch notes: Witch powers, Armory & Battlepass cosmetics

Diablo 4 fated threads

Diablo 4 Season 7 will be coming early in 2025 and Blizzard has lifted the veil on all the official information.

Following the Vessel of Hatred expansion and Season 6, Diablo 4 Season 7 will be the first season to be released post-DLC, meaning it will be different from what’s come before. Season 7 likely won’t be quite so tied to Vessel of Hatred as Season 6 was, but expect it to connect to both the expansion and the base game.

While Season 6 introduced Diablo players to the rather cool Realmwalkers mechanic, it mostly relied on Vessel of Hatred and the new Nahantu region for the bulk of its content. This time, we suspect the hunt for Mephisto will truly begin in Season 7.

Diablo 4 all new content in Season 7

Diablo 4 Season 7 release date

Diablo 4 Season 7 starts January 21, 2025.

Blizzard revealed the date in the patch notes, released two days ahead of the official campfire chat on January 16. That said, because the Season 6 battle pass ends on that same date, we had already suspected Diablo 4’s seventh season would kick off around that date.

New characters: The Coven of Hawezar

Diablo 4 coven

If you’ve ever wanted to befriend a secretive group of witches with questionable motives, now’s your chance.

The Coven of Hawezar, protectors of the ominous Tree of Whispers, are eager to help (read: manipulate) you into solving their latest supernatural crisis.

The Tree’s macabre collection of captive Heads has gone rogue, and they’re not happy about it.

These fugitive Heads are sowing chaos, and it’s up to you to track them down. In exchange, the Coven will teach you their Witchcraft Powers.

How to start Season 7 main quest

To meet the Coven of Hawezar, head to Gea Kul and speak with Gelena, your friendly neighborhood witch.

Hewre, you’ll have to complete the seasonal questline to uncover the mystery of the missing Heads and unlock the powers of witchcraft.

Witch powers

Diablo 4 witchcraft powers

Witchcraft Powers diversify your combat style with three distinct schools:

  • Eldritch: Channel raw destruction, with fire, shadow, and explosions galore.
  • Psyche: Mess with your enemies’ heads while buffing yourself.
  • Growth & Decay: A delightful mix of life-giving and life-draining magic.

You can earn Restless Rot by completing Whisper bounties and defeating Headrotten enemies, then use it to:

  • Unlock Witchcraft Powers at the Witches’ Altars.
  • Upgrade your powers and turn them into devastating tools of destruction.

Revamped Tree of Whispers

Diablo 4 Tree of Whispers

The Tree of Whispers is back with bigger bounties. During the season, you’ll:

  • Hunt rogue Heads in Headhunt zones – creepy areas filled with Headrotten enemies.
  • Return the Heads to the Tree for juicy rewards like Ancestral Collections.

Look out for Rootholds, seasonal dungeons with extra challenges and rewards.

Craft Occult Gems and cheat death

Occult Gems are shiny new socketables that give your Witchcraft Powers more power.

To craft them, you’ll need materials from Headrotten and Fugitive Heads. Look for Gelena at the Tree of Whispers to start crafting.

Some gems offer quirky perks, like:

  • Wicked Pact: Boosts your Eldritch Powers’ potency by 25%.
  • Vulture Talon: Makes your damage-over-time effects 35% faster.
  • Vile Phylactery: Saves you from fatal damage, at the cost of disabling certain Witchcraft Powers temporarily.

Eternal updates: Armory, Welcome Back Booster & more

Diablo 4 armory

Blizzard’s here to make your life easier:

  • Armory: Save, load, and swap builds effortlessly in town. It’s character-bound, with five loadout slots per character.
  • Welcome Back Booster: Instantly level a character to 50 with pre-set skills and gear.
  • Class Mechanics: Finish a class-specific mechanic quest once, and it’s unlocked account-wide for all characters of that class.

Runes, uniques, and that sweet, sweet loot

For those chasing rare drops, you’ll find:

  • New and updated Runes for Vessel of Hatred.
  • Improved unique items with minimum rolls on powers tied to their Greater Affixes.
  • New Legendary Aspects and Uniques for every class, including the Spiritborn.
