How to unlock Jafar in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Disney / GameloftAfter serving as the main antagonist for A Rift in Time’s storyline, Disney Dreamlight Valley players with the expansion can finally unlock Jafar as a villager.
The Dapper Delights update, which released on August 21, 2024, finally adds the conclusion to A Rift in Time‘s three-part story, titled Treasures of Time.
Following the update, players at long last have an opportunity to confront Jafar. The update also allows the Aladdin villain to join the Valley as a villager – though it’ll take some work to unlock him.
How to unlock Jafar: Step-by-step guide
To unlock Jafar as a Villager, you’ll need to complete all of A Rift in Time’s story, then complete an additional quest.
- Complete Acts 1 and 2 of A Rift in Time
- Complete the Mysterious Mickey quest
- Complete the Use Your Imagination quests for Rapunzel, EVE, Gaston, and Mickey Mouse
- Complete The Palace of Time quest
- Complete the Jafar’s Laboratory quest
- Complete The Now and Then quest
- Complete The Lesser Evil quest
Complete A Rift in Time Acts 1 & 2
Before you can start Act 3 of A Rift in Time, you’ll need to complete all of the DLC’s story up to this point.
If you haven’t already, unlock Oswald by completing a series of quests on Eternity Isle. During The Spark of Imagination quest, you’ll encounter Jafar and learn more about his evil scheme, which ties into the new story content.
Mysterious Mickey – Investigate Mickey’s transformation
Upon completing the previous quests, return to Eternity Isle for a cutscene that shows all the havoc Jafar is causing, including transforming Mickey Mouse himself into an old-timey cartoon.
After it’s done, talk to Merlin on the Isle. Merlin will inform you of the high stakes, then send you to Mickey Mouse, who is flickering between his normal and monochromatic looks.
Mickey will tell you he feels like he’s being pulled between worlds, which Merlin believes are the past and present. Return to him with the new details from Mickey.
Merlin has found a way into the Palace, so follow him – though don’t be surprised if he gets stopped by some confused Eternity Isle folks along the way. Once you make it to the strange (and unfortunately blocked) entrance in the Promenade, Merlin will tell you a bit of Dreamlight lore and ask you to consult Oswald.
After revealing his own reckless experiment, Oswald reveals the key to dealing with the rifts seems to be imagination, and not just your own. He’ll send you to Rapunzel, Gaston, EVE, and Mickey to get a diverse set of minds on the case.
This unlocks four new quests wherein each character helps you investigate a Rift.
After completing all four, return to Merlin and head back to the secret entrance with him to close the Rift blocking it.
Use Your Imagination: Rapunzel
Speak to Rapunzel, and she’ll take you to a rift she found near the Sundial Island. She’ll come up with the idea to use Floating Lanterns, so go craft them using the following:
- 25 Tropical Wood
- 10 Bamboo
- 3 Rope
Tropical Wood and Bamboo can be forged from the Wild Tangle. Rope can be crafted using 8 Fiber.
Bring them to Rapunzel and she’ll point out something missing: wishes. Talk to Mickey, Gaston, Oswald, and EVE to hear about their greatest wishes.
Once you’ve done that, return to the rift with Rapunzel and use the Floating Lantern to close it.
Use Your Imagination: EVE
Talk to EVE, and she’ll send you to the Ancient Ruins west of The Docks. Once there, follow here to the room on the left, which is home to another rift.
EVE doesn’t have any ideas, so head to the more imaginative WALL-E for help. He’ll hand over an old film projector, giving you the idea to make a movie. Speak to EVE again to share your plan: making a movie of her and WALL-E having fun.
To do that, take pictures of the duo in the following places:
- Inside the Ancient Ruins (by the Rift)
- Inside WALL-E’s house
- Inside EVE’s house
You’ll then need to make a Film Reel with the following:
- 8 Plastic Scrap
- 3 Mechanical Parts
Plastic Scrap can be fished from Ancient’s Landing. Mechanical Parts can be crafted using Brass Ingot and Bronze Ingot.
Once you’ve made your movie, bring the Reel to EVE and return to the Ancient Ruins. Speak to her here to complete the quest.
Use Your Imagination: Gaston
Talk to Gaston and he’ll bring you to a Rift in his camp. Unsurprisingly, Gaston’s not great in the imagination department, so you’ll need to enlist Oswald to be his coach.
Oswald’s reluctant to help (Gaston did threaten to hunt him for food) but after getting Gaston to promise not to cook anyone, you’ll go on a tour of the island with him.
The first stop is the shipwreck in the Wastes, where Gaston first arrived. After speaking to him here, follow him to higher ground, where he finally comes up with an idea: a ship in a bottle.
Gather the following and bring it to Gaston:
- 20 Softwood
- 8 Glass
Softwood can be forged in various locations including Ancient’s Landing. Glass can be crafted using 5 Sand and 1 Coal Ore.
After some prompting, Gaston will try his best to make one himself, so return to the Rift to complete the quest.
Use Your Imagination: Mickey
Speak to Mickey and he’ll guide you to a rift on the Secluded Beach. Talk to him here, and he’ll share his idea for what to throw in the rift: a Hot Dog Cart.
Craft this with the following:
- 8 Brass Ingot
- 8 Bronze Ingot
Once that’s done, Mickey will point out there’s something important missing: Hot Dogs. Of course, this being a cartoon cart, you’ll need Toon Dogs, which require the following:
- Pork
- Poultry
- Venison
- Wheat
- Toon Sauce
Mickey will give you the Toon Sauce. Meat can be purchased from Gaston’s Stall, and Wheat Seeds can be purchased from the Peaceful Meadow.
Give the Toon Dogs over the Mickey and return with him to the rift. Sacrifice the Hot Dog Cart to the rift to close it, completing this quest.
The Palace of Time – Enter Jafar’s Palace
With the Rifts cleared away, you can finally enter the Palace.
You’ll immediately be stopped by a broken bridge; interact with the Hourglass to create a path. However, this blocks off the next door, so interact with the second Hourglass to put things back as they were.
To get through the next door, spin the plate on the ground so it lines up and spin the plate so the light reflects onto the sensor by the door. Past the door, use the next Hourglass the clear the way to the next area.
After a cutscene, you’ll find yourself in the Throne Room with a new quest.
Once you complete Jafar’s Laboratory, you’ll be treated to another cutscene in which Jafar opens a new Rift. Enter that to finish the quest.
The next step is to explore the west side of the Palace to find a key. Climb the stairs to reach the Laboratory.
How to make Bird Food
There’s another puzzle here, but for now, climb up the stairs and talk to the Raven. While the bird will help, you’ll need to make Bird Food to feed it. The recipe is as follows:
- Ripe Carrot
- Ripe Tomato
- Rotten Clam
- Roten Fish
Grab a Ripe Carrot and Ripe Tomato from the table. Then use the Hourglass to make time pass so you can get Rotten Clam and Rotten Fish.
Combine these at the Cooking Station to create Bird Food.
Jafar’s Laboratory – Find the key
Give this to the Raven, and it’ll give you a Power Coil. Slot that into the wall, then turn the floor tiles and plates as you did in the previous room. Once everything is in place, use the Hourglass to make a beam of light appear that reaches the sensor and opens the chamber containing the Key.
Turn the Hourglass back so you can leave the Laboratory and return to the last area, where you can use the Key to unlock the Throne Room.
The Now and Then – Find a way back to Eternity Isle
Entering the Rift will bring you to a mysterious black-and-white island. Climb the hill to find Mickey Mouse in all his full Steamboat Willie glory.
Mickey has also been trapped here and points out a “funny-lookin’ projector.” You’ll probably recognize this from EVE’s quest, so pick it up and bring it to Mickey.
From there, you’ll need to explore the island to find the items Rapunzel, Gaston, and Mickey created earlier.
- Rapunzel’s Lantern can be found under a big rock on the shore; break the rock with your Pickaxe
- Mickey’s Hot Dog Roaster is buried on the hill; break the rock blocking the path, then use your Shovel to dig it up
- Gaston’s Ship is in a locked chest hidden in a cavern; fish up the key from the one fishing spot in the area, then break the rock blocking the cave and unlock the chest
Bring the items to Mickey, and he’ll help you combine them into an imaginative escape method.
Back in the world of color, you’ll find Jafar who’s furious to see you made it out of his trap. You’ll manage to trick him into sealing himself into a Lamp.
Talk to Mickey, then pick up the Lamp and The Spark of Imagination Jafar stole much earlier.
Head down the stairs to talk to Merlin. He’s come up with a way to deal with the Spark: sharing it with everyone.
Leave the Palace to complete A Rift in Time’s main story.
The Lesser Evil – Help Oswald & free Jafar
Once you’ve finished the Treasures of Time storyline, the game doesn’t make it clear what to do next.
To continue on the path to unlocking Jafar, pick up one of the strange 2D objects on the Isle. There are three in the following locations: The Docks (Statue), The Plains (Cactus), and the Grasslands (Tree).
Talk to Oswald, who will confess he’s behind them. From there, go and grab the other two and bring them to Merlin.
Merlin will send you back to Jafar’s Palace to find his notes in the Laboratory. Once you have all three, return to Merlin.
Unfortunately, the wizard is still stumped and suggests taking a pretty big risk: consulting Jafar.
To get him out of the lamp, go to the Cave of Wonders (accessed through that menacing tiger head in The Wastes). Head to the deepest part of the cave and place Jafar’s Lamp in the Statue of Time’s arms. Use your Hourglass to on it.
Jafar is delighted to be free and, knowing what you’re capable of, agrees to help.
After this, Jafar will finally be a villager you can interact with like any other.
Jafar’s Level 2 Friendship Quest: The Optics of a Second Chance
Once you reach friendship level 2 with Jafar, talk to him to start the first of his Friendship Quests. Here, you two will further investigate those strange 2D objects from the previous quest.
Retrieve the necessary supplies
Jafar will ask you to return to the Cave of Wonders and find his tools: a Polished Mirror and two Photonic Levers. He’ll also request you retrieve three Power Cables from EVE’s house.
The Cave is large and has various twists and turns, so be sure to check every room; the tools aren’t in that last room with the big statue you visited earlier, so stick to the main cavern and puzzle rooms.
The Power Cables are much easier to find. Simply head to EVE’s house and interact with the pile of junk on the ground to remove it. This will give you all three of the cables.
Craft the Dimensional Prism
Return to Jafar and he’ll give you the next task: crafting a Dimensional Prism. This requires the following:
- 1 Jade
- 1 Alexandrite
- 1 Evergem
- 1 Spinel
- 1 Bumblestone
All of these gems can be mined from the various Biomes of Eternity Isle. If you’re missing any, check out our guide on all gem locations for more details.
Conduct Jafar’s experiment
Once you have the Dimensional Prism, return to Jafar, who will ask you to meet him in his castle’s laboratory. Speak to him here, and he’ll explain how to set up the experiment.
First, you’ll need to plug the cables into the door. If you’re having trouble finding where they need to go, look for the sparking wires against the wall. Interact with them and insert the wires you found in EVE’s house.
Once that’s powered up, pull the level next to the nearby door. This will open a small chamber where you can place the three 2D items.
Then, go to the pedestal and place the Dimensional Prism. Pull the lever again to close the door.
Go to the other lever on the back of the mirror to conduct Jafar’s experiment. After that, pull the lever by the door again to open it, pick up the now-repaired (and three-dimensional) objects, and bring them to Jafar.
Put the repaired objects back
Finally, you’ll need to return the three objects to their respective Biomes:
- Geometrically Stabilized Cactus – Glittering Dunes
- Geometrically Stabilized Statue – Ancient’s Landing
- Geometrically Stabilized Tree – Wild Tangle
These don’t have to go in any particular spot; just use the game’s decorating tools to place them.
Once that’s done, return to Jafar. He’ll give you the Prism and Pedestal furniture item for completing the quest.
