Elden Ring fans tired of the deafening silence around Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
FromSoftwareElden Ring fans are fed up with the radio silence surrounding the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, nearly eight months after its original announcement.
FromSoftware’s Elden Ring was a massive success following its release in 2022, and the game’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki made it clear at the 2022 Game Awards that there was more to come.
Fans learned on February 28, 2023, that the game’s DLC expansion would be called Shadow of the Erdtree and was currently in development at FromSoftware.
Unfortunately, fans haven’t heard anything substantial about the much-anticipated DLC since, and the community is reaching a boiling point.
Elden Ring fans desperate for any word on DLC
A post on the Elden Ring subreddit gained traction among the community after criticizing FromSoftware’s decision to announce the Shadow of the Erdtree and then give no updates for a lengthy amount of time.
“What’s the point of announcing DLC if they’re gonna stay silent for straight 220 days? Is this normal?,” they asked.
Some fans acknowledged that the lengthy wait with no actual news was a bit abnormal for the company and guessed at the rationale behind the decision.
“They usually announce DLC 2-3 months before the release… I assume they announced the DLC for Elden Ring so early because they knew it would take a lot longer to make compared to their previous games and just wanted to spare us the wondering/arguing for years if there would be DLC or not.”
Others noted that FromSoft called the Shadow of Erdtree an “expansion” which possibly hints at its scope and why it’s taking so long to develop. “I’m taking a guess here but I’m pretty sure the difference will be in size. They’re calling it an expansion because it will be a lot bigger than what we’re used to…”
While many acknowledged the wait has been difficult, they expressed faith in the developer’s ability to deliver when the DLC does finally drop. “Yes OP it is a bit long for no news. But I take it as a good sign. Longer development = bigger DLC,” said one fan.
Hopefully, it won’t be too much longer until Elden Ring fans hear some news about the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
