David Dobrik, YouTubePopular content creator David Dobrik has revealed why his parents initially wanted him to quit YouTube before his rise to fame.
David Dobrik has built a massive following of over 16 million subscribers on his channel from his highly entertaining vlog series, which frequents celebrity guests such as Justin Bieber and Kylie Jenner.
However, the popular star revealed that things didn’t always look so bright for him and that his parents even wanted him to quit YouTube at a certain point in his career.
Dobrik revealed, during an interview with EliteDaily, that when he initially shared his plans to become a successful YouTuber with his parents they were left quite unsure about his potential career path.
“I think my family is just constantly confused [about] what’s going on,” he explained, “I remember the first couple years I started doing this they were kind of like ‘OK, what’s going on?'”
He then shared that they had even asked him to quit YouTube and go back to school at a certain point after concerns over how sustainable vlogging could be, “At first, they were like, ‘You need to stop doing this and go back to school.’ They were a little bit scared it was a fluke.”
Despite their initial doubts, David Dobrik continued to see growth on YouTube and is now one of the biggest stars on the video-sharing platform, pulling in tens of millions of views on each of his latest uploads.
“I think they’re a little more comfortable with it,” Dobrik said adding that his parents were more understanding following his recent success, “They’re like ‘OK, maybe he can support himself.’ I think they’re happy.”
He later revealed that one moment that led to his parents easing their concerns a bit was his appearance on popular actress Anna Faris’ Unqualified podcast, who his parents were big fans of at the time, sharing that they had texted him in excitement following the release of the episode.
Although Dobrik is currently taking a break from uploading regularly to YouTube due to the ongoing health crisis, the internet star has since shifted his attention to TikTok and is continuing to grow his fanbase with highly entertaining content.
