Internet-famous Michigan resident Corey Harris has successfully gotten his learner’s permit after going viral for phoning into his court hearing for a suspended license while driving.

44-year-old Corey Harris is an internet celebrity thanks to the debacle that unfolded after he phoned into court while pulling into a hospital during a hearing for driving with a suspended license.

After getting mocked online, it was discovered that a judge had actually ordered the suspension on his license to be lifted back in 2022, with Harris saying the clerical error was to blame for the whole ordeal.

It wasn’t long after that, though, that the very same judge who’d overseen Harris’s viral trial discovered that he’d never even had a driver’s license, in the first place.

“Let me make it very clear, based on what the court looked at — [Harris] has never had a Michigan license. Ever,” Washtenaw County Judge J. Cedric Simpson said. “And he has never had a license in the other 49 states and commonwealths that form up this great union. He has never had a license.”

Harris’s lawyer said that he’d be working toward getting his learner’s permit — something the man successfully accomplished on June 7, 2024.

The Webster Law Office recorded Harris going in to apply for his permit at the Michigan Secretary of State, and later showed the 44-year-old doing a celebratory dance outside the building after getting cleared.

Now that Harris has his learner’s permit, he’s able to practice driving in a vehicle with another licensed adult, something that’s necessary when taking driving lessons and preparing to take a state’s official driving exam.

Harris’s lawyer, Dionne Webster-Cox, said that Harris took “a step in the right direction” in a statement to People. “One day does not make the rest of your life, it can change in a day.”

This marks the latest entry in the viral saga following Harris, who has become a veritable online icon thanks to his humorous reaction during his trial that’s now racked up millions of views across multiple social media platforms.
