Pokimane slams Twitch viewer for calling her “slow” over gambling debate
Twitch: pokimaneTwitch star Pokimane popped off on one of her viewers for calling her “slow” due to her stance against gambling being streamed on the platform.
Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys has made no bones about how she feels regarding gambling being streamed on Twitch.
In 2022, she famously spoke out against streamers gambling on Twitch, demanding the platform ban gambling content after fellow creator Sliker admitted to scamming his fans and colleagues out of thousands of dollars to feed his gambling addiction.
Pokimane also claimed that she would never stream herself gambling “for any amount” whatsoever — and she has maintained this stance years later, despite some critics calling her ethics into question.
Pokimane slams Twitch viewer for calling her “slow”
On January 23, Pokimane was streaming on Twitch when the subject of gambling came up.
One of her viewers seemingly took issue with her attitude toward the subject and threw an insult toward her, writing in the chat: “Genuine question, Poki — why do you talk down on gambling and not realize that adults can make their own decisions? Are you slow?”
Pokimane hit back at the viewer with a scathing response, arguing that gambling content isn’t being advertised just toward adults on the platform. While the majority of Twitch’s reported user base are 18-24 years old, it’s a given that many kids lie about their age on the site, which has an age limit of 13 years.
“For starters, let’s not say ‘genuine question,’ and then call someone slow,” she retorted. “It’s kind of like if I said, ‘That’s a great question, but you’re an absolute idiot to think that gambling is only being advertised to adults only when it’s being live streamed on Twitch dot TV.”
“Maybe you’re slow,” she continued. “But I say that with such genuine authenticity.”
It’s clear that Pokimane still feels negatively toward gambling being promoted on Twitch due to the impact it could have on young viewers.
In October 2022, Twitch implemented a ban on certain gambling sites, prohibiting broadcasters from showing off sites that involved slots or dice games that are not licensed in the US or provide “sufficient consumer protection.”
