South Park mocks Fortnite during season premiere

Matt Porter

Popular American sitcom South Park took a dig at Fortnite during their Season 22 premiere on Wednesday, September 26.

The shot came during a segment featuring characters Eric Cartman and Butters Stotch, with Cartman lamenting about his poor math test results.

“Butters, I need help,” a serious Cartman states. “My mom says if I flunk another math test she’s going to ground me from playing Fortnite!”

The comment between Cartman and Butters is a sly jab at the battle royale, implying that the game is for children. This criticism has been leveled at Fortnite before, especially when comparing Fortnite to games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or Call of Duty’s Blackout.

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are no strangers to roasting pop culture icons. In the past, they’ve taken on Kanye West, Michael Jackson and even other popular games such as Call of Duty.

While South Park may have made fun of of the popular franchise, it seems Fortnite is stronger than ever. In a post on their website, Epic Games confirmed that 78 million people played Fortnite during the month of August, a record figure for players since the game’s launch in 2017.

Fortnite will remain at the forefront of gaming for the foreseeable future, with Season 6 of the hugely popular battle royale game officially launching on Thursday, September 27 to massive interest.
