A TikTok chicken tender recipe has gone viral on the platform after being dubbed a “healthy” alternative to fast food brands, as part of a user’s 66 pound weight loss diet.

The food TikTok scene is among the most popular on the internet, providing everybody with a love for cooking or more generally eating, a place to learn.

Quite often you will see recipes taking over the internet, ranging from healthy snacks to indulgent desserts.

This June, an Irish TikTok user called mrbyrnes has been dominating the algorithm, raking in hundreds of thousands of responses with their low-calorie, high protein, alternatives to comfort food.

TikTok chicken tenders diet goes viral

On June 25, the content creator rolled out a new video for their ‘low cal healthy chicken tenders’. He says was a key component of the diet that saw him lose over 60 pounds, leaving people around the world intrigued about the recipe.

The TikToker’s body transformation can be seen at the start of the clip, which has raked in over 1.4 million likes at the time of writing.

For three chicken strips, they pack 47 grams of protein and 350 calories. To make them, he adds 350g of chicken to a bowl, adds hot sauce, lots of seasoning, and uses 65g of corn flakes for the breading.

Is it really healthy?

The snack itself is said to include 350 calories per batch of three.

Using a fast food comparison from the USDA, KFC chicken strips are said to contain 129 calories and 13 grams of protein per piece, which means the TikToker’s substitute shaves just 13 calories off the stuff you would get from Kentucky. As for TGI Fridays Chicken Fingers, they pack 106 calories per piece, at just nine grams of protein.

Therefore, if you’re looking for a high-protein diet, the TikToker’s are certainly up there. These are oven-baked, too – better than fried options – yet it’s still not the healthiest thing you can choose to eat.

While there may be question marks over whether they’re healthy (as not many fried foods are), it’s not stopped this video from taking off on the platform. It certainly won’t be the last, either.
