What does ‘coquette’ mean on TikTok? Pink bow trend goes viral

An aesthetic known as ‘coquette’ is going viral on TikTok, as users are embracing pink bows and girlishness.

Throughout the years, many aesthetics have gone viral on TikTok, with some of the most popular examples being the colorful tomato girl summer fad, and the winter-friendly Mob Wife trend.

One of the latest to take over people’s For You Pages on TikTok is the girly ‘coquette’ aesthetic. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

What is the ‘coquette’ trend on TikTok?

This coquette aesthetic is all about being girly, wearing dainty dresses, and accessorizing with cute pink bows. Although it is often embraced by teenage girls, people of all ages, races, sexualities, and genders can be coquette.

Urban Dictionary states that the pretty aesthetic is mainly based on “reclaiming girlhood and embracing a fun-loving, bubbly personality.”

On TikTok, pink bows are used to represent coquette, and as part of a new trend, people are putting them on anything or anyone that they find cute. In one viral clip, a girl put pink bows on her cat’s ears.

“She is so coquette,” one viewer commented, along with a pink bow emoji. “She wins this trend,” another said. “The coquettest coquette cat that ever coquetted,” someone else quipped.

While the girlish aesthetic has been around on the social media app for several years, it only gained significant attention recently, as many are turning towards hyper-femininity.

So far, the hashtag for the trend has amassed over 20 billion views on TikTok, with users embracing coquette by putting pink bows on their dogs, magazines, nails, drinks, significant others, and more.
