Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth fans convinced infamous bosses will return after spotting trailer clue
Square EnixTwo of the most infamous bosses in the Final Fantasy series could be set for a return, based on clues spotted in the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth State of Play trailer.
Final Fantasy VII Remake was only the first part of a trilogy, which meant that a lot of the content featured in the original game has yet to be adapted as part of the new timeline. This means fans might wait years to see modern incarnations of all their favorite characters.
One benefit of releasing the games as part of a series is that they get to hint at things to come. Final Fantasy VII Remake did this a few times. However, they weren’t always handled well, such as the baffling Cait Sith cameo that would make zero sense to anyone unfamiliar with the original game.
As the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is fast approaching, fans are sifting through the demo and the extended Sony State of Play trailer for more information. It seems they struck gold, or rather, struck emeralds and rubies, as they spotted two huge hints in Tifa’s room.
Emerald & Ruby Weapon spotted in FF7 Rebirth trailer
A user on the FFVII Remake Reddit has shared their altered improvements of two posters that are seen briefly in the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo. These posters seemingly depict Emerald Weapon and Ruby Weapon, two of the secret bosses from the original game.
The posters seem to be generic tourist attraction pictures, but the artwork and titles clearly reference the Final Fantasy VII secret bosses. The Ruby Red poster has red hills in the shape of Ruby Weapon’s body, while the Emerald Sea has an island with gems that resemble Emerald Weapon’s form.
Emerald Weapon and Ruby Weapon were the two most difficult bosses in Final Fantasy VII and are often the first things people think of when secret bosses are mentioned in games. You need specific load-outs to even think of taking them on, as well as being level 99 and possessing the best gear in the game.
What’s interesting about the posters is that they could be hinting at the creatures returning in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth rather than the final game in the trilogy, which is what many fans expect. Perhaps Square Enix has new secret bosses lined up for the last entry in the remake trilogy.
There are five Weapon monsters in Final Fantasy VII (Emerald, Ruby, Diamond, Sapphire, and Ultimate) and two more introduced in spin-offs (Jade and Omega), so there could be a chance to fight them all in the remake trilogy.
Whatever the case, it seems Square Enix is preparing fans for the return of two of the most fearsome bosses in the franchise, though how they’re going to work in an action RPG is unclear, as they were originally fought in turn-based battles in Final Fantasy VII.
