After a lot of anticipation, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has finally launched on PS5. This is the second part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy and the direct sequel to 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Picking up from the first game’s cliffhanger, Rebirth gives fans the chance to reunite with Cloud and friends once again and embark on a journey that differs from the original game’s timeline.

Throughout your time with the JRPG, you’ll be exploring an open world, taking part in plenty of minigames, experiencing an emotional narrative, and of course battling a lot of enemies. Before you head into combat in Rebirth, you’ll want to make sure you’re fully prepared which includes having your weapons as upgraded as possible.

So, here’s exactly how you can upgrade weapons in Rebirth.

How to upgrade weapons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, your weapons will automatically upgrade when you’ve got enough Weapon SP in the game.

Whenever you defeat enemies in Rebirth you’ll earn Weapon SP and your weapons will level up once you’ve acquired a certain amount of SP. To see how much more SP you need to upgrade a specific weapon, you can simply open the Weapon Upgrade menu, select the weapon you want to view stats for, and you’ll find the Weapon level and SP information at the bottom left of the page.

Once your Weapon levels up you’ll unlock both passive stat boosts and Weapon Skills which can be manually equipped to the weapon each character is currently wielding.

Can you manually upgrade weapons in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

No, you cannot manually upgrade weapons.

The weapon upgrade system is strictly automatic in Rebirth in contrast to Final Fantasy 7 Remake where you could manually upgrade.
