Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players want to be able to shut up certain characters
Square EnixFinal Fantasy VII Rebirth fans want the option to be able to quieten some of the characters, as they never shut up while the player is exploring the overworld.
There are several candidates for the most annoying video game character of all time, with Navi from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Preston Garvey from Fallout 4 being popular candidates.
The Final Fantasy series is no stranger to annoying characters, with fans sharing their disdain for Vaan from Final Fantasy XII and Wakka from Final Fantasy X. This is to say nothing of Final Fantasy VII’s Cait Sith, who drew the ire of the fans for his awful appearances in Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus.
Cait Sith is back in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but his position as the most annoying character has been usurped, not by one person, but two.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth fans want Chadley & MAI to shut up
A user on the Final Fantasy Reddit has created a thread with a makeshift method for shutting up Chadley and MAI. These two characters constantly talk during your quests, most noticeably during Battle missions. This method involves muting your controller, but fans want the ability to turn their dialogue off.
“Don’t you just love when a battle has a unique task to do, so you may have to restart, and Mai just doesn’t shut up?” one player complained, “I wouldn’t mind if she talked after the battle as in riding away, but I’m not paying attention during the battle.”
“I have no idea why someone thought it was a good idea to have MAI talk through a battle. It is supremely annoying. Absolutely no one is listening,” one player wrote, while another said, “Yeah what’s the deal with video games having just nonstop talking/ quips from the characters lately like shut up bruh it’s annoying.”
MAI is a brand-new character, so there’s a reason why the developers misjudged how much she talks. Chadley, however, appeared in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as a useful ally and was generally liked by the fanbase, so it’s unclear why he was turned into a chatterbox in the sequel.
While turning down the PS5 mic is an option, it means constantly messing with the console’s options for a single game. Hopefully, a future Final Fantasy VII Rebirth patch will allow players to disable all non-relevant dialogue from Chadley and MAI rather than need to mute them.
