Customer shamed at pizza place for not tipping despite picking up order
FlickrA customer was shamed by a pizza house after they decided not to leave a tip, despite picking up the order themselves.
In a popular sub Reddit aptly named “End Tipping,” a poster recently took to the platform to share an experience they’d had when ordering takeout.
Redditor r/matterri, began a discussion following on from her experience, where she claimed her partner was guilted by a pizza worker.
“My husband placed an order online for a pizza to go. He paid online and did not put anything for the tip. When he went to pick it up, the guy at the counter said, ‘I noticed you didn’t leave a tip; I wanted to let you know you can still leave one.’ My husband said, ‘Good to know,’ and walked out!”
People weigh in on tipping for pick up order
After the post was shared, it accumulated a ton of comments, with many quick to defend the husband’s decision not to tip.
“I never tip when I’m picking up. Why would I? You charged me for the supplies and labor to make the food. I drove myself there and walked my ass up to the counter to get it because your portion of the labor was done,” one stated.
“It’s so awkward to ask about tipping after they have already paid. Staff get so frustrated knowing someone didn’t tip. I could never look at someone and ask ‘why didn’t you tip?’ That is just so Awkward and uncomfortable.”
Some offered some alternatives for the poster that had a different outlook on tipping: “This is another reason I stopped ordering pizza and we make it a point to only eat in or order at Little Caesars. No Tipping involved and they don’t have our address either.”
Another pizza place went viral in February, after DoorDash cancelled a $600 order they’d been preparing all night.
