Influencer “fat shamed” as Greek waiter tells her to order less food
Red LobsterAn influencer went viral on TikTok after she said she was shamed by a Greek waiter who told her she should order less food.
In a video that’s since gone viral, an influencer shared an experience she’d had whilst vacationing with her friend in Greece.
They stumbled upon a cute little restaurant, and asked if they could get a table there. The server said that they could squeeze them in, and they were sat at a table with amazing views. Her friend proceeded to order the octopus.
She says that a little later, another couple were seated next to them that “looked like politicians.” Things got strange when the waiter brought the “politicians’” table the octopus her friend had ordered, and proceeded to explain the dish in depth, giving them “special treatment.”
They brought the octopus to their own table too, and just said nothing. They then come over to take their order for main, and she orders the salmon, but the waiter insists that she gets the sea bass instead, despite protest.
She agrees and asks if she can get the Greek salad as well, to which he responds “that’s too much food for you.”
The waiter then takes the order for the “politicians’” table, and recommends the salmon. “What the heck,” the influencer remarks.
It turns out, the “politician” couple sitting next to them were Michelin star critics, and took note of how poorly they treated the influencer’s table, compared to theirs. The critic even said that the other table was “fat-shamed” in their review.
People hit out at Greek restaurant
After the video went live on the platform, people were super angry that the friends were treated this way.
“Wow! I’m sorry you had to experience that and glad most people were appreciative!”
“My guess is that they didn’t want to run out of the good stuff that they were saving for the food critics,” one explained.
“They didn’t know those people were food critics and the food critics seemed to have gotten salmon, which isn’t local and wouldn’t be what’s recommended for food critics,” another suggested.
However, a few sided with the restaurant, writing: “Americans being Americans. They don’t know even the value of fresh fish and can consider ordering salmon, which was caught thousands of miles away instead. And fat shaming? Dude, nobody cares what you look like in Greece (or elsewhere), you are not the center of the world.”
“The only thing that this video achieved is me wanting to actually go to this restaurant and eat some great octopus,” another wrote.
Another TikToker went viral after they raged at staff at the sugar factory when they added an automatic tip to their bill.
