McDonald’s customers went viral after they attempted to hoax drive-thru workers by telling them that they were “secret shoppers,” in order to get ice cream.

It’s a long standing joke that the ice cream machines at McDonald’s seem to be perpetually broken, leaving many longing for their Oreo McFlurry.

A McDonald’s customer, Hannah, who shared their video on TikTok, went to great lengths to try and get her ice cream. Gaining over 563,000 views, her partner can be seen speaking to a McDonald’s employee at the drive thru.

“Yeah that guy was like—I don’t know what he’s doing but we ordered a McFlurry,” the driver sitting beside Hannah the woman at the drive-thru.

The employee responds, “Unfortunately we can’t do McFlurries or any ice cream right now.”

“I’m actually a secret shopper,” the passenger blags. “I work for McDonald’s corporate. I’m a regional manager so I was just wondering why the machine’s down. I had a couple calls that they’re down in this area so…”

“They put it…the machine back together wrong or something every time we try to go to make it it doesn’t…” they tell him.

“OK, I can mark that down. Who’s the manager on duty right now?” he asks.

“Samantha,” the employee informs him.

“Samantha?” he responds, before disbelievingly repeating the woman’s claim that there’s an “actual problem with the machine.” He then drives away, muttering a few expletives.

People weigh in on McDonald’s ice cream “secret shopper”

After the video was posted on the platform, people were quick to comment on the “secret shopper,” hoax. Many sided with the video’s poster, writing that:

“My husband used to work at McDonald’s. It’s only ‘down’ because they don’t want to clean it.”

I went one day and asked for a shake and the lady said ‘we just don’t like to clean it, so we’re not doing it today,'” another shared.

Some however, thought that the McDoanld’s worker was on to them, writing: “Most workers know your lying because they would order first and after they would come inside and talk to the employees and ask them what’s going on.”

“Secret shoppers don’t tell you anything until after they’re done,” another stated.

Another McDonald’s customer went viral, after they lost it over the chain’s new “sippy style” lids.
